Viola Awards reward and celebrate excellence in the arts and sciences in Flagstaff.<\/p>\n<p>Novak performed in the <a href=\"http:\/\/nau.edu\/cal\/theatre\/\">Department of Theatre<\/a> productions of \u201cForgotten Places,\u201d \u201cThe House of Bernarda Alba,\u201d \u201cOf Mice and Men,\u201d \u201cQuilters\u201d and \u201cShakespeare Alive.\u201dShe recently had the lead role as Alma in Tennessee William\u2019s \u201cSummer and Smoke,\u201d directed by <strong>Christina Gutierrez-Dennehy<\/strong>, a theatre lecturer. Novak is a member of NAU\u2019s Lazzi Posse, Commedia dell\u2019Arte Improvisational troupe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI chose NAU knowing I would get the chance to truly act, but what I did not know is the theatre department would help me discover what it means to truly be human,\u201d Novak says. \u201cNAU has taught me and inspired me to face my fears, my insecurities and my dreams.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Novak, president of Alpha Psi Omega, plans to graduate this spring and continue her training at an acting conservatory or graduate school.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith every production I am in, I become more and more in love with theatre,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/grace-novak\/\">Grace Novak, a senior theatre performance major at Northern Arizona University, has been nominated for a 2017 Emerging Artist Viola Award.
