The program offers $15,000 to encourage undergraduate science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) majors and post-baccalaureate students holding STEM degrees to earn a teaching credential and commit to teach in high-need school districts. Supported by the National Science Foundation, the program is in its fifth year. The scholarship is available to NAUTeach undergraduate students and Master of Arts Teaching Science with Certification (MAT-S) graduate students during their final year of coursework. Since its inception, 60 students have received the award and have been deemed Noyce Fellows. After graduation, fellows participate in an induction program for support during their first years of teaching to promote retention.<\/li>\n<li>\n<figure id=\"attachment_46138\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-46138\" style=\"width: 174px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/IMG_3808.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-46138\" src=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/IMG_3808-264x300.jpg\" alt=\"Tiah Bialik holds her Silver Apple Award\" width=\"174\" height=\"198\" srcset=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2017\/01\/IMG_3808-264x300.jpg 264w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2017\/01\/IMG_3808.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 174px) 100vw, 174px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-46138\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tiah Bialik<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>NAU Elementary Education and Early Childhood Development major,\u00a0<strong>Tiah Bialik<\/strong>,\u00a0recently received the Channel 3-Silver Apple Teacher Award, which honors outstanding Arizona teachers. The award was presented on live TV, and broadcast across the state on Tuesday, Jan. 17. Bialik is scheduled to graduate in May 2017.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Several undergraduate and graduate students auditioned for the Opera National Council, a home for creative and talented performers from throughout the world. Northern Arizona University affiliates <strong>Andrew Surrena<\/strong>, tenor (alumnus), <strong>Alan Williams<\/strong>, bass-baritone (undergraduate student), <strong>Colette Roberts<\/strong>, soprano (graduate student), <strong>Josephyne Santos<\/strong> (undergraduate student) and <strong>Rehanna Thelwell<\/strong> (alumna) were all named\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.metopera.org\/About\/Auditions\/nationalcouncil\/CurrentWinners\/\">district champions<\/a>.
