Students were encouraged to develop expertise in their professions, build relationships with experts from other disciplines and use teamwork and communication to provide optimum client care. The event, sponsored by the Child Welfare Training Project, was well-received with 72 students and faculty in attendance. Planning is underway to make this an annual event. <a href=\"http:\/\/nau.edu\/SBS\/SSW\/Degrees-Programs\/CWTP-News\/\">Read more.<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Christopher Lanterman<\/strong>, senior lecturer in the College of Education, Educational Specialties Department, recently received the Professional Recognition Award from the Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD) in Indianapolis, Indiana. Lanterman has been committed to the field of higher education and disability, working with universal design and its applications in higher education, in addition to\u00a0regularly contributing to AHEAD by providing\u00a0presentations, publications and conference proposal reviews.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Annette McGivney<\/strong>, senior lecturer in NAU&#8217;s\u00a0Journalism department, recently received two awards from the International Regional Magazine Association&#8217;s Awards. McGivney received second place for the prestigious &#8220;Magazine Writer of the Year&#8221; Award for five feature stories she wrote for <em>Arizona Highways<\/em> magazine in 2015. In addition, she accepted the Award of Merit in the Nature and Environment category for an <em>Arizona Highways<\/em> story she wrote about Mexican wolves on the White Mountain Apache reservation.<\/li>\n<li>NAU University Information Security Officer\u00a0<strong>Lanita Collette<\/strong>\u00a0was invited to participate in a panel discussion at the 2016 Splunk Analytics Conference, \u201cClosing the Gender Gap in Cybersecurity.\u201d The panel discussion, sponsored by the Splunk Women in Technology Group, included\u00a0conversations about how programs such as NAU&#8217;s new School of Informatics Computing and Cyber Systems can help meet the growing demand of cybersecurity jobs.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rebecca Campbell<\/strong>, associate professor of Educational Psychology, was asked to serve on the review board for the eSource for College Transitions journal and as an external reviewer for the Paul P. Fidler Research Grant by the National Resource Center for First-Year Students and Students in Transition.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Chih-Hsiung Tu, <\/strong>professor in the\u00a0Educational Specialties Department in NAU&#8217;s\u00a0College of Education, will receive\u00a0the Award for Distinguished International Service in Educational Communications and Technology on Oct. 20 at the AECT Convention held in Las Vegas, Nevada. Tu will be recognized for his more than 10 years of\u00a0service in international\u00a0education\u2014assisting graduate students in hosting various panel discussions and\u00a0contributing to the international arena.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/spotlight-oct-6-2016\/\">Kudos to these faculty, staff and students Do you have a spotlight item to share with the NAU community?
