{"id":44944,"date":"2016-09-01T10:47:32","date_gmt":"2016-09-01T17:47:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/?p=44944"},"modified":"2016-09-07T15:39:18","modified_gmt":"2016-09-07T22:39:18","slug":"nau-recognized-excellence-diversity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/nau-recognized-excellence-diversity\/","title":{"rendered":"NAU recognized for excellence in diversity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Northern Arizona University recently received the prestigious 2016 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity\u00a0(HEED)\u00a0Award from <em>INSIGHT Into Diversity<\/em> magazine.<\/p>\n<p>The HEED Award is the only national recognition honoring colleges and universities that exhibit outstanding efforts and success in the area of diversity and inclusion throughout their campuses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<span class=\"s1\">This award is truly an honor and reflects the investment and commitment NAU places on diversity.\u00a0 It\u2019s important to note that our work on diversity isn\u2019t about seeking recognition, it represents the commitment of our entire university community,<\/span>\u201d President<strong>\u00a0Rita Cheng<\/strong> said.<\/p>\n<p>Recent efforts reflecting\u00a0NAU\u2019s ongoing commitment to diversity include the addition of the <a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/cie\/international-pavilion\/\">International Pavilion<\/a>\u00a0to campus, <a href=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/new-chief-diversity-officer-selected\/#.V8YVtJMrI2I\">the hiring of a Chief Diversity Officer<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/tohono-oodham-mou\/#.V8YWCZMrI2I\">strengthening ties with tribal colleges<\/a>\u00a0and record-breaking minority student\u00a0enrollment for the 2016-17 academic year\u2014which currently makes\u00a0up 39\u00a0percent of the new freshman class.<\/p>\n<p>NAU will be featured, along with 82 other recipients, in the November 2016 issue of <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.insightintodiversity.com\/\">INSIGHT Into Diversity<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/nau-recognized-excellence-diversity\/\">Northern Arizona University recently received the prestigious 2016 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity\u00a0(HEED)\u00a0Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine.
