Photo credit: Sarah Cotton<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Olympics are in full swing and athletes who trained in Flagstaff are already making a name for themselves.<\/p>\n<p>As part of a partnership with the high-performance sports center <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hypo2sport.com\/\">Hypo2<\/a>, NAU hosts athletes from around the world who seek the benefits of training in Flagstaff\u2019s thin mountain air. Of the hundreds of athletes who trained here this year, 202 athletes, representing 30 countries, made their respective Olympic teams\u2014an all-time record for the northern Arizona community.<\/p>\n<p>Kosuke Hagino of Japan, who took advantage of training in NAU\u2019s new <a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/campus-recreation\/wall-aquatic-center\/aquatic-and-tennis-complex\/\">Olympic-size swimming pool<\/a>, is taking home the gold medal after competing in the men\u2019s 400m individual medley.<\/p>\n<p>Winnetka native Conor Dwyer of the United States, who also trained in NAU\u2019s Aquatic and Tennis Complex, earned both a\u00a0gold medal for the\u00a0<span class=\"s1\">4 x 200m freestyle relay and bronze medal for the individual\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">200m freestyle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Other athletes who trained in Flagstaff to earn medals so far include Siobhan-Marie O-Connor of Great Britain, Daiya Seto of Japan and Jazmin Calin of Great Britain.<\/p>\n<p>A full list of athletes who came through NAU and Flagstaff and made it to Rio can be viewed on this <a href=\"http:\/\/online.fliphtml5.com\/rmkd\/yjxj\/#p=1\">2016 Olympic Roster<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vKTfrRqMAGA\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/flagstaff-rio-high-altitude-training-pays-off-olympic-athletes\/\">The Olympics are in full swing and athletes who trained in Flagstaff are already making a name for themselves.
