Franke College of Business.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Andrea Houchard<\/strong>, director of NAU\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/nau.edu\/ppi\/\">Philosophy in the Public Interest<\/a>, was recently recognized as a Civic Engagement Leader by the League of Women Voters of Greater Verde Valley. The award recognizes outstanding work in encouraging informed and active participation in community and government, which exemplifies the purpose of the League of Women Voters. Philosophy in the Public Interest offers community programs including <a href=\"http:\/\/nau.edu\/PPI\/Hot-Topics-Cafe\/Past\/\">Hot Topics Caf\u00e9s<\/a>,\u00a0discussions about current events, monthly screenings of independent films and documentaries and <a href=\"http:\/\/nau.edu\/ppi\/sedona-salons\/\">Sedona Salons<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Meghan Warren<\/strong>, associate professor in physical therapy, was awarded a fellowship with the Center on Health Services Training and Research, a multi-institutional and multi-disciplinary center designed to advance health services and health policy research in physical therapy. Warren also was awarded $14,000 from the American Physical Therapy Association to analyze the functional limitation reporting, FLR, from the national database from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Warren\u2019s research will focus on examining the completeness of the FLR and the ability to measure change in function from an initial physical therapy examination to discharge.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kimberly Mitchell<\/strong>, associate professor of visual communication, and <strong>John Gialanella<\/strong>, lecturer of visual communication, were awarded a $15,000 AIGA Innovate Grant for the <a href=\"https:\/\/arizona.aiga.org\/arizona-chapter-wins-funding-for-design-thinking-board-game\/\">development of a design-thinking board game<\/a>. Located in a fictional, but familiar world, where regions inhabited by millions of people are devastated by both natural and made-made disasters, three teams of two players each must design solutions to meet a stream of challenges. Teamwork, creativity,\u00a0communication and empathy are required to solve each challenge and will earn each team \u201cDesign Cred.\u201d The team with the highest level of Design Cred at the end of the game is the winner.<\/li>\n<li>\n<figure id=\"attachment_44405\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-44405\" style=\"width: 459px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-44405\" src=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/CSAC-2016-Scholarships.jpg\" alt=\"CSAC Scholarship recipients\" width=\"459\" height=\"257\" srcset=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2016\/06\/CSAC-2016-Scholarships.jpg 595w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2016\/06\/CSAC-2016-Scholarships-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 459px) 100vw, 459px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-44405\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">CSAC&#8217;s textbook scholarship recipients are Matt Bloomfield, Noreen Parrish and Gabe Gurrola. Not pictured: Jennifer Offutt.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>NAU\u2019s <strong>Classified Staff Advisory Council<\/strong> awarded four textbook scholarships to NAU staff members currently working towards undergraduate degrees. This year\u2019s recipients are <strong>Matt Bloomfield<\/strong>,\u00a0Facility Services Grounds, <strong>Noreen Parrish,\u00a0<\/strong>Extended Campuses,\u00a0<strong>Gabe Gurrola,\u00a0<\/strong>General Maintenance Lead, and\u00a0<strong>Jennifer Offutt,\u00a0<\/strong>College of Education\/Education Leadership. The funds were collected from CSAC\u2019s split-the-pot raffle at the annual mixer.<\/li>\n<li><strong>James Wilce<\/strong> and <strong>Janina Fenigsen<\/strong>\u00a0from the Department of Anthropology\u00a0have guest edited a special issue of <em>Ethos<\/em> titled <a href=\"http:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1111\/etho.2016.44.issue-2\/issuetoc\">&#8220;Emotion Pedagogies\u201d<\/a> published in the <em>Journal of the Society for Psychological Anthropology<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Martin D.
