The exhibition runs June 9 through July 2. Neumann\u2019s photographs use tiny prefabricated plastic figures set in natural wilderness and human built landscapes to create a variety of narrative scenes. Neumann&#8217;s image titled &#8220;Rest Stop at the Dam&#8221; also was selected for the exhibition poster.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Meliksah Demir<\/strong>, associate professor of psychological sciences, undergraduate\u00a0<strong>Andrew Haynes<\/strong>, and alumna <strong>Shannon Potts<\/strong>,\u00a0co-authored an article titled \u201cMy Friends Are My Estate: Friendship Experiences Mediate the Relationship between Perceived Responses to Capitalization Attempts and Happiness\u201d published in the\u00a0<em>Journal of Happiness Studies<\/em>.\u00a0Across four studies, the authors reported that friendship experiences explain why receiving positive responses upon sharing a positive event with a friend is related to happiness.\u00a0Demir\u2019s work on friendship and happiness also received recognition in a recent BBC story \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/future\/story\/20160529-what-i-learnt-using-a-friendship-app\">What I learnt using a \u2018friendship app.<\/a>\u2019\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tinna Traustad\u00f3ttir<\/strong>, assistant professor of biological sciences, led a study titled <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0891584916300429\">\u201cExercise-induced Nrf2-signaling is impaired in aging\u201d<\/a> published in <em>Free Radical Biology and Medicine<\/em>. The study found the effects of exercise on cells varies with age. Compared to male participants who were older than 54, younger people had more positive effects from exercise, which triggered a response with a regulator of antioxidant genes.<\/li>\n<li>NAU\u2019s Family Violence Institute\u2019s Associate Director\u00a0<strong>Holly Hulen<\/strong>\u00a0received an invitation to attend the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theunitedstateofwomen.org\/\">United State of Women Summit<\/a> in Washington D.C. Convened by the White House, the summit will cover economic empowerment, leadership and civic engagement, educational opportunity, health and wellness, entrepreneurship and violence against women.<\/li>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-44236 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/LeaveGreen2016_xibo_Final15-copy-300x170.jpg\" alt=\"Leave Green campaign\" width=\"243\" height=\"138\" srcset=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2016\/06\/LeaveGreen2016_xibo_Final15-copy-300x170.jpg 300w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2016\/06\/LeaveGreen2016_xibo_Final15-copy-768x435.jpg 768w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2016\/06\/LeaveGreen2016_xibo_Final15-copy-1024x580.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2016\/06\/LeaveGreen2016_xibo_Final15-copy.jpg 1582w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 243px) 100vw, 243px\" \/>NAU Housing and Residence Life\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.nau.edu\/green-p\/index.php\/tag\/leave-green\/\">Leave Green Move Out<\/a>\u201d donation program recorded its third highest collection in program history. Big Brothers Big Sisters collected 31,197 pounds of unwanted items from the residence halls and Sunshine Rescue Mission collected more than 6,000 pounds of non-perishable food and 1,000 pounds of cleaning supplies.\u00a0Accepted items included gently used clothing, household items, books, school supplies, furniture and small appliances.\u00a0Housing and Residence Life has managed the program since 2010 to benefit several Flagstaff non-profit agencies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/spotlight-june-8-2016\/\">Kudos to these faculty, staff and students Do you have a spotlight item to share with the NAU community?
