Eight internationally renowned artists who are connecting their imaginations to the limitless possibilities of 3-D printing are exhibiting sculptures at Northern Arizona University.<\/p>\n
Mind 2 Machine 2 Material: Digital Technology and Sculpture Today<\/em> explores emerging media and digital technologies in fine art at the NAU Art Museum. The exhibit runs April 19 through June 10.<\/p>\n \u201c3-D printing is more than just technology, it has more to do with not being bound by any particular practice or even traditional art methods,” said David Van Ness<\/strong>, coordinator of New Media at NAU. “If you can imagine it, you can create it.\u201d<\/p>\n New Media, the term used when artists\u2019 aspirations interplay with digital technology, is a \u201cconceptual and phenomenological leap that is generating a great deal of interest around the globe,\u201d said NAU Art Museum Director George Speer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Sculptures in the show range from small to large, light as thread to heavy as bronze, ghost-like human forms created from glitched movements, dreamy colorful swirls, thick books with pages of face sculptures, antler-clad beings, curious creatures and birds with wings that flap as the viewer approaches.<\/p>\n The exhibit’s opening reception is from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 21, at the NAU Art Museum.<\/p>\n Located inside the front doors of NAU\u2019s historic Old Main on the Flagstaff campus, the NAU Art Museum is open from noon to 5 p.m., Tuesdays through Saturdays.
