Doug Ducey\u00a0to serve on the <a href=\"https:\/\/azsbe.az.gov\/\">Arizona State Board of Education<\/a>, a selection that was confirmed today by the Legislature.\u00a0The president will represent\u00a0all three public Arizona\u00a0universities in the role.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am honored to join the board as I am committed to ensuring all students\u00a0have\u00a0access to high quality educational opportunities,&#8221; said Cheng. &#8220;Every\u00a0student\u00a0should graduate high school with the necessary skills to be successful in college and in their career. We must set that expectation, hold our systems accountable and provide students and their families with the tools to make informed decisions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Cheng said she &#8220;looks\u00a0forward to joining\u00a0leaders from across the state in this important work that benefits all Arizona residents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">NAU&#8217;s longstanding commitment to educational quality stems from its history\u00a0as a teachers college. The university continues to produce alumni who are\u00a0outstanding teachers\u00a0and educational leaders, as recognized through the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/six-nau-alumnae-chosen-as-rodel-exemplary-teachers\/\">Rodel Exemplary Teachers<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/arizonas-best-school-principals-received-nau-degrees\/\">Principals<\/a>\u00a0initiatives, said Cheng.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The university <a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/COE\/About\/Projects\/\">engages in multiple projects and centers<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0support of K12 educational programming for future and current teachers and educational leaders, such as resources at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.azk12.org\/\">Arizona K12 Center<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/nau.edu\/cefns\/cstl\/\">NAU&#8217;s\u00a0Center for Science Teaching and Learning<\/a>. NAU also offers educational\u00a0support services that contribute to student preparedness,\u00a0including <a href=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/gear-up-success-expands-with-30-million-grant-to-nau\/\">Arizona GEARUP<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/nau.edu\/Student-Support-Services\/TRiO-Programs\/\">TRiO<\/a> and statewide\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/nau.edu\/ESS-Sites\/Educational-Support-Services\/College-Bound-Outreach\/\">college-bound outreach programs<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Arizona State Board of Education&#8217;s\u00a0mission is to set policies that foster excellence in public education.
