{"id":42790,"date":"2016-04-05T16:20:35","date_gmt":"2016-04-05T23:20:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/?p=42790"},"modified":"2016-04-05T16:20:35","modified_gmt":"2016-04-05T23:20:35","slug":"leadership-diversity-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/leadership-diversity-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"NAU presents inaugural leadership and diversity conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Northern Arizona University\u2019s United Diversity Council and Associated Students for Women\u2019s Issues will host the inaugural\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/nau.edu\/IMS\/National-Conference-on-Leadership-and-Diversity\/\">National Conference on Leadership and Diversity<\/a>\u00a0on April 22-23.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The conference, \u201cWe Are All Seeds: See Diversity Through Our Eyes,\u201d\u00a0is free\u00a0for students, graduate students, administrators and\u00a0advisors<\/span><span class=\"s2\">.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/nau.edu\/IMS\/NCLD-Conference-Registration-Form\/\">Registration<\/a>\u00a0is available online through\u00a0Friday, April 15.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The &#8220;Tunnel of Oppression&#8221; event kicks off the two-day conference from 4-8 p.m. Friday, April 22, in the du Bois Center. It will feature\u00a0interactive monologues, fine art and multimedia presentations\u00a0depicting forms of oppression and injustice followed by opportunities for discussion and reflection.<\/p>\n<p>Conference sessions\u00a0will be held from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, April 23, in the du Bois Center. They\u00a0will address several topics including stereotypes, expanding higher education for students of color and LGBTQIA students, social movements and portrayals of cultural histories. Keynote speakers include Carla Christopher and Tamara Winfrey Harris.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/nau.edu\/IMS\/NCLD-Conference-Schedule\/\">View the full schedule of events here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The final keynote presentation by\u00a0prominent antiracist essayist and educator, Tim Wise, at 4:10 p.m. Saturday, April 23, is open to the community.
