He will serve a one-year term and will assume full presidential duties the following year. The organization promotes research and dialogue through presentations at the annual meeting, publications<em>,<\/em>\u00a0awards to community groups, committee participation, consultation and the generation of new ideas.<\/li>\n<li><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-42721\" src=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Berglund_9780816509447_Cover300dpi5-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"Indigenous Pop book cover\" width=\"160\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2016\/03\/Berglund_9780816509447_Cover300dpi5-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2016\/03\/Berglund_9780816509447_Cover300dpi5-768x1151.jpg 768w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2016\/03\/Berglund_9780816509447_Cover300dpi5-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2016\/03\/Berglund_9780816509447_Cover300dpi5.jpg 1801w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 160px) 100vw, 160px\" \/>Jeff Berglund<\/strong>, professor of English, was a contributing editor for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uapress.arizona.edu\/Books\/bid2604.htm\"><em>Indigenous Pop: Native American Music from Jazz to Hip Hop<\/em><\/a><em>,\u00a0<\/em>which\u00a0recently\u00a0was\u00a0published by the University of Arizona Press. The book is the first comprehensive and wide-ranging examination of the work of Native American musicians who work within contemporary and popular genres. The editors showcase the contributions of American Indian musicians to popular forms of music, including jazz, blues, country-western, rock and roll, reggae, punk and hip hop. <strong>Chad Hamill<\/strong>, special advisor to the president for Native American Affairs, also contributed to the book. Hear Berglund discuss the book in a <a href=\"http:\/\/kjzz.org\/content\/277221\/book-explores-native-american-influence-pop-music\">KJZZ interview here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Steven Barger<\/strong>, professor of psychological sciences, had a paper published in <em>Biological Psychology<\/em>. The paper titled <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0301051116300035\">\u201cSocial support sources matter: Increased cellular aging among adults with unsupportive spouses\u201d<\/a> compares leukocyte telomere length in older married adults who did or did not report their spouses as a source of social support. The study found telomere length, a marker of cellular-level aging, was shorter among spouses who did not nominate their spouse as a support source.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Eric Yordy<\/strong>, associate professor of business law, had his paper \u201cThe New Freedom for Business: The Past and Future of Free Exercise\u201d accepted for publication in <em>The Freedom Center Journal,<\/em> a constitutional law review affiliated with the University of Cincinnatti Law School. The paper is an analysis of the free exercise of religion under the First Amendment and how the U.S. Supreme Court expanded the right to closely held corporations in 2014.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Joseph Martin<\/strong><strong>, <\/strong>associate professor and director of the American Indian School Leadership, had a chapter published in <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Voices-Resistance-Renewal-Indigenous-Leadership\/dp\/0806148675\">Voices of Resistance and Renewal<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em>Martin\u2019s chapter defines, describes and expands theories about the experiences of graduates from the American Indian School Leadership program during their tenure as first-year principals.<\/li>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-42742\" src=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Model-UN-teams-1024x512.jpg\" alt=\"Model United Nations teams \" width=\"490\" height=\"245\" srcset=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2016\/03\/Model-UN-teams-1024x512.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2016\/03\/Model-UN-teams-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2016\/03\/Model-UN-teams-768x384.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 490px) 100vw, 490px\" \/>NAU&#8217;s <strong>Model United Nations<\/strong> club\u00a0recently returned from two conferences. A team of 12\u00a0competed at the University of California at Berkeley and two took home awards. <strong>Connor Mullins<\/strong> received the Outstanding Delegate award and <strong>John Murphy<\/strong> won Honorable Mention.
