Their winning work &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/flagartscouncil.org\/2016\/01\/jane-armstrong-christopher-taylor-aphasia\/\">Aphasia: Neurological Disorder in Text and Image<\/a>&#8221; pairs\u00a0Armstrong\u2019s short essays about her experience suffering from the neurological disorder aphasia with Taylor\u2019s paintings in response to Armstrong\u2019s words. The multi-media exhibition is currently on display on the second floor of Riles\u00a0through April 29.<\/li>\n<li>Northern Arizona University\u2019s <strong>School of Hotel and Restaurant Management<\/strong> was named among the <a href=\"http:\/\/ceoworld.biz\/2016\/03\/04\/top-50-hospitality-hotel-management-schools-world-2015\">top 50 Hospitality and Hotel Management Schools in the World<\/a> by <em>CEOWORLD<\/em>. The rankings were based on a survey of 18,000 hospitality recruiters and senior managers of luxury hotels around the world.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Allen Z. Reich<\/strong> and <strong>Galen R. Collins<\/strong> of NAU\u2019s School of Hotel and Restaurant Management co-authored an article with\u00a0Agnes L. DeFranco of the University of Houston titled\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S1473837616300016\">\u201cIs the road to effective assessment of learning outcomes paved with good intentions? Understanding the roadblocks to improving hospitality education.<\/a>\u201d\u00a0The article will appear in the upcoming issue of the\u00a0<em>Journal of Hospitality, Leisure, Sport &amp; Tourism Education. <\/em>It reviews the challenges to implementing an effective assessment of learning outcomes process and offers solutions that can help hospitality programs and faculty fulfill their responsibilities to students. Photo courtesy of Jut Wynne.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Jut Wynne<\/strong>, of NAU\u2019s Merriam-Powell Center for Environmental Research, published an article in\u00a0<em>Zootaxa\u00a0<\/em>describing a new millipede species discovered in western New Mexico. The arthropod was named <em>austrotyla awishoshola<\/em>, a phrase of the Zuni language spoken by indigenous people of the region. The millipede, believed to be a relict of the Pleistocene era, was discovered in a moss-covered cave in El Malpais National Monument.<\/li>\n<li>For the third consecutive year, <strong>Northern Arizona University<\/strong> has been recognized with a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its <a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/comptroller\/annual-financial-reports\/\">2015 comprehensive annual financial report<\/a>. Awarded by the Government Finance Officers Association, the certificate\u00a0recognizes reports that \u201cgo beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare comprehensive annual financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure and then to recognize those that succeed in achieving that goal.\u201d\u00a0The program\u2019s goal is to assess the financial health of participating governments and ensure that users of their financial statements have the information they need to do so themselves. <strong>Tammy Laird<\/strong>, <strong>Anton Ciochetti<\/strong>, <strong>Brent Helsel<\/strong>, <strong>Marty Glassburn<\/strong> and <strong>Francine Dalgai<\/strong> of the Comptroller\u2019s Office all contributed to the report.<\/li>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-42344\" src=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Korean-exchange-students-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Partner university faculty and staff\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2016\/03\/Korean-exchange-students-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2016\/03\/Korean-exchange-students-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2016\/03\/Korean-exchange-students-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2016\/03\/Korean-exchange-students.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>In February, <strong>Eric Deschamps<\/strong>, director of Education Abroad, and <strong>Ron Gray,<\/strong> assistant professor at the Center for Science Teaching &amp; Learning, hosted a delegation from the Korea National University of Education. While in Flagstaff, the group took classes on pedagogy and education at NAU and visited local schools including Sinagua Middle School and Coconino High School.
