{"id":42199,"date":"2016-03-04T09:05:17","date_gmt":"2016-03-04T16:05:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/?p=42199"},"modified":"2016-03-04T09:05:17","modified_gmt":"2016-03-04T16:05:17","slug":"42199-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/42199-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Historic agreement widens options for Native American students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"NAU Dine\u0301 College MOU\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/oEHJEqhd1Zs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Northern Arizona University has entered into a formal partnership to offer additional higher education opportunities for Native American students.<\/p>\n<p>A memorandum of understanding was signed this week by NAU President <strong>Rita Cheng <\/strong>and Din\u00e9 College President Martin Ahumada, outlining agreements for academic programming, faculty collaboration and student success initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>Din\u00e9 College is the country\u2019s first tribal college and the partnership will encourage\u00a0more Native American students to earn\u00a0baccalaureate and master\u2019s degrees. Beyond facilitating transfer to NAU from Din\u00e9 College, interdisciplinary teams from both institutions will collaborate to further improve services, educational programs and the culture of respect and acceptance among\u00a0people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNAU is close geographically but also culturally, philosophically and programmatically,\u201d said Ahumada, who noted that the missions of NAU and Din\u00e9 College share many similarities.<\/p>\n<p>For graduate students, NAU is first in the country for awarding education\u00a0master\u2019s degrees and second in awarding master\u2019s degrees in all disciplines.
