NAU also experienced\u00a0a\u00a012 percent increase in minority student enrollment.<\/p>\n<p>NAU\u2019s total spring student population is 27,106, up from\u00a025,590 in the\u00a0spring of 2015.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are thrilled to see increases in retention from fall to spring, and year to\u00a0year growth,&#8221; said NAU President <strong>Rita Cheng<\/strong>. &#8220;The significant\u00a0increase in diversity of the\u00a0student body\u00a0demonstrates our\u00a0commitment to fostering\u00a0an inclusive and supportive\u00a0environment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Numerous initiatives, including\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/First-Generation\/STAR\/\">STAR<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/nau.edu\/Student-Support-Services\/TRiO-Programs\/\">TRiO<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/First-Generation\/Welcome\/\">First Scholars<\/a>\u00a0programs, provide an array of support services for undergraduate students and contribute to retention.<\/p>\n<p>NAU students shared how much they benefited from NAU support services as incoming Lumberjack students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cComing in as a freshman from out of state is intimidating but through the <a href=\"http:\/\/nau.edu\/peer-jacks\/\">Peer Jacks<\/a>\u00a0mentoring program, I was pretty much guaranteed a friend right off the bat and that made all the difference for me,\u201d said <strong>Spencer Sanders<\/strong>, a senior at NAU majoring in political science and psychology.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Brienna Trow<\/strong>, a junior from Phoenix, and <strong>Dylan Palacpac<\/strong>, a second semester freshman, took advantage of the Supplemental Instruction to help them through\u00a0Biology 181.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cScience is not my strong suit but I needed another science course to get in to the College of Education,\u201d said Trow, who is majoring in special and elementary education. \u201cI found out about SI and went to meetings twice a week. It helped me so much to go over quizzes, activities and readings. So when I went to class, I felt prepared and confident. I passed the course and got into the College of Education.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Palacpac added, \u201cWithout the SI sessions, I would not have been able to bring my grade up to an A. It\u2019s a really awesome service that NAU offers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Enrollment\u00a0on the Flagstaff campus reached\u00a019,443. NAU also has\u00a04,910 online students, 501 at NAU-Yuma and 2,001 on its\u00a0community campuses. Enrollment on the\u00a0Phoenix Biomedical Campus is 251.<\/p>\n<p>The total undergraduate population of 23,436 reflects\u00a0an increase of nearly 7 percent over spring 2015.
