The Student and Academic Services building, a\u00a0new home for\u00a0student support,\u00a0admissions\u00a0and a multifaceted academic center, officially\u00a0opened to Northern Arizona University students and visitors this month.<\/p>\n

A Student Service Center on the first floor\u00a0will\u00a0provide current students a centralized location for coordinated services related to Financial Aid, the Registrar and Student Accounts beginning\u00a0Feb. 1.<\/p>\n

“Cross-trained front-line staff will help navigate and resolve issues for students in a single\u00a0location,” said Matt Tantau<\/strong>, director of the Student Service Center. “This will provide students with a high level of personalized service\u00a0and keep them from having to visit multiple departments across campus.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tour the new Student and Academic Services building<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

The campus community is invited to an\u00a0open house\u00a0from 3:30-5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29. A brief program is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. Light refreshments will be served, and tours will be offered by True Blue Ambassadors. The building is located at\u00a01800 S. Beaver Street. Parking is available in the San Francisco parking garage.<\/p>\n

The center will allow students to add classes, review financial aid, check on billing, make payments and drop off forms for processing. Registrar, Scholarships and Financial Aid staff also will be on hand to meet with students regarding more complex matters. The center will be open Monday, Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Wednesday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.<\/p>\n

University Admissions staff have shifted\u00a0from Sechrist Hall into an expanded space in the new building\u00a0where they began greeting prospective students and parents for orientation and campus tours at the start of the year.<\/span> The space also features a 150-seat auditorium.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Admissions Welcome Center provides a fantastic first impression for visiting prospective students and their families,\u201d said Chris Phillips<\/strong>, assistant director of the center. \u201cWhen visitors arrive they are welcomed by Admissions Officers and True Blue Ambassadors, and they attend a presentation in our state-of-the-art auditorium space before touring our dynamic mountain campus.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The building also includes more than 150 offices for\u00a0faculty and staff and lab space for social science research. At more than 100,000-square-feet, it\u00a0will be the new home for\u00a0an expanded Lumberjack Mathematics Center<\/a>, quadrupling the\u00a0footprint of its location in the Health and Learning Center by adding\u00a0classrooms, group study rooms, testing and tutoring space.<\/p>\n

Construction began in the fall of 2014.\u00a0The building is anticipated\u00a0to earn silver or gold LEED certification.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
