The event also celebrated the grand opening of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.showaz.org\/\">Student Health Outreach for Wellness project<\/a>, a tri-university medical outreach effort serving the homeless in downtown Phoenix. More than 300 people visited the fair\u2019s booths where they received free blood pressures screenings, blood glucose checks, hearing assessments and oral health education. NAU\u2019s participating programs include occupational and physical therapy, along with the physician assistant program. Faculty members volunteer time for the outreach efforts.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Zachary Smith<\/strong>,\u00a0Regents\u2019 professor of politics and international affairs<strong>,<\/strong> recently published an edited anthology of original articles titled \u201cDeveloping Civic Engagement in Urban Public Art Programs.\u201d The essays explore how public art can bring communities together, create community where there is no sense of place and assist public administrators to create public art programs that engage the public.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Alexandra A. Carpino<\/strong>, professor of art history and chair of the Department of Comparative Cultural Studies, delivered a lecture titled &#8220;Promoting the Etruscans in Northern Arizona through Study Abroad Programs, Editorial Work and Research&#8221; to Etruscan archaeology students on November 20. Carpino was\u00a0the guest of David Soren, a University of Arizona Regents&#8217; professor.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/ManleyBegayAward.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-40634 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/ManleyBegayAward-300x225.jpeg\" alt=\"Begay\" width=\"170\" height=\"127\" srcset=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2015\/12\/ManleyBegayAward-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2015\/12\/ManleyBegayAward-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2015\/12\/ManleyBegayAward.jpeg 1632w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 170px) 100vw, 170px\" \/><\/a>Manley Begay<\/strong>, professor of Applied Indigenous Studies, has been named Man of the Year by the Phoenix Indian Center. The award was\u00a0presented at the <a href=\"http:\/\/phxindcenter.com\/excellence-in-leadership-awards\/\">2015 Arizona American Indian Excellence in Leadership Awards<\/a>\u00a0in Scottsdale.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Danielle Richards<\/strong>, a graduate student in the master\u2019s in literature program, presented her research titled &#8220;Time, Androgyny, and Shame in Woolf\u2019s Orlando and Eugenides\u2019 Middlesex&#8221; during\u00a0Pacific University&#8217;s &#8220;Gender, Race, and Transformation&#8221; conference in Oregon.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/earth\/story\/20151112-see-an-entire-valley-change-colour-in-this-gorgeous-timelapse-video\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-40650\" src=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/@modrac-Harun-BBC-Earth-timelapse-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Timelapse\" width=\"224\" height=\"149\" srcset=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2015\/12\/@modrac-Harun-BBC-Earth-timelapse-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2015\/12\/@modrac-Harun-BBC-Earth-timelapse.jpg 599w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 224px) 100vw, 224px\" \/><\/a>Harun Mehmedinovic<\/strong>, assistant professor of practice in\u00a0the School of Communication, was recently featured on BBC Earth for his seasonal time-lapse video of New River Gorge. The video was shot as part of the Skyglow project, a photo book and time-lapse video series focused on the night sky.
