Vadasz was invited to the academy where he received an award and delivered a public lecture.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Fred Hurst<\/strong>, senior vice president for NAU Extended Campuses, was elected vice-chair of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.ed.gov\/about\/bdscomm\/list\/acsfa\/edlite-index.html\">Advisory Committee on Student Financial Assistance<\/a>. Recommendations from the 11-member congressional committee go to Congress and the Secretary of Education. Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick <a href=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/vp-fred-hurst-appointed-to-congressional-committee\/#.VfGyF4thKfQ\">appointed Hurst<\/a> to the committee in 2013.<\/li>\n<li>A research article co-authored by <strong>Tom Kolb<\/strong>, professor in the School of Forestry, has been highlighted\u00a0in a <a href=\"http:\/\/treephys.oxfordjournals.org\/content\/35\/8\/803.full\">commentary<\/a> in\u00a0<em>Tree Physiology<\/em> for novel use of tree-ring analysis, stable isotope chemistry and xylem anatomy to disentangle mechanisms of mortality of pi\u00f1on pine trees during drought.
