{"id":3711,"date":"2010-06-14T13:56:20","date_gmt":"2010-06-14T20:56:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/?p=3711"},"modified":"2012-11-06T14:14:50","modified_gmt":"2012-11-06T21:14:50","slug":"abor-president-calderon-expresses-gratitude-to-board-university-presidents-and-faculty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/abor-president-calderon-expresses-gratitude-to-board-university-presidents-and-faculty\/","title":{"rendered":"ABOR President Calder\u00f3n expresses gratitude to board, university presidents and faculty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In his last meeting as president of the Arizona Board of Regents, Regent\u00a0<strong>Ernest Calder\u00f3n\u00a0<\/strong>spoke about the board\u2019s accomplishments over the past year toward\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/azregents.asu.edu\/rrc\/DocumentLibrary\/2020-Vision.pdf\"><em>2020 Vision<\/em><\/a>\u00a0and expressed his gratitude for successes through hard work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has been one of the most demanding years in ABOR history,\u201d said Calder\u00f3n, \u201cBut the burdens we bear are for our system and our students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a<a href=\"http:\/\/www4.nau.edu\/insidenau\/images\/photos\/2010\/6_14_10\/CalderonLettertoBoard.pdf\">\u00a0letter<\/a>\u00a0to the board, Calder\u00f3n cited achievements during the past year including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>increased outreach to rural Arizona through university and community college partnerships, NAU-Yavapai and ASU\u2019s College@ASU<\/li>\n<li>implementation of several 3+1 programs, making baccalaureate degrees more affordable for students<\/li>\n<li>elevated accountability standards for intercollegiate athletic systems<\/li>\n<li>expansion of Credit by Examination, with a 31.5 percent increase in CLEP exams accepted and 300 percent increase in International Baccalaureate exams credited<\/li>\n<li>ASU and NAU acceptance of \u00a0DANTES Standardized Subject Testing as provided through military service schools<\/li>\n<li>Arizona higher education movement to a common course numbering system<\/li>\n<li>centralization of audit and legal functions and sharing of resources between universities in capital projects<\/li>\n<li>tracking of state high school graduates into higher education through the National Student Clearing House<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Calder\u00f3n commended the board, university presidents and faculty for their efforts in identifying ways to increase access to higher education throughout the state.
