{"id":37095,"date":"2015-06-10T19:46:49","date_gmt":"2015-06-11T02:46:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/?p=37095"},"modified":"2015-06-11T13:57:51","modified_gmt":"2015-06-11T20:57:51","slug":"new-leader-of-nau-yuma-selected","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/new-leader-of-nau-yuma-selected\/","title":{"rendered":"New leader of NAU-Yuma selected"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NAU has selected <strong>Michael Sabath<\/strong> to head up the NAU-Yuma branch campus, President <strong>Rita Cheng<\/strong> announced.<\/p>\n<p>Sabath has been with San Diego State University since 1993, most recently as the associate dean for academic affairs at the university\u2019s Imperial Valley campus, about an hour\u2019s drive from Yuma.<\/p>\n<p>Sabath earned his undergraduate business degree at the University of California-Berkeley, his master\u2019s in public administration from California State University-Chico and his Ph.D. in Public and International Affairs from the University of Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince the NAU-Yuma branch campus was established\u00a0more than 25 years ago, the university has played an important role in southwestern Arizona,&#8221; Cheng said. \u201cMichael Sabath has a thorough understanding of the region, and I look forward to expanding our presence in the community under his leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sabath said he plans to help grow NAU-Yuma enrollment and further strengthen the university\u2019s reputation. \u201cI look forward to building relationships with other educational partners while enhancing the region\u2019s workforce development,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Sabath said he and his wife have enjoyed living in the area near the U.S.-Mexico border and they look forward to\u00a0moving to Yuma.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to being hired by San Diego State University, Sabath held faculty positions at the University of Pittsburgh, Indiana University and\u00a0the University of Missouri in Columbia.<\/p>\n<p>NAU-Yuma is a Hispanic-Serving Institution, a designation determined by the U.S. Department of Education.\u00a0With facilities on the Arizona Western College campus, NAU-Yuma offers\u00a0numerous baccalaureate and master\u2019s degrees options.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/new-leader-of-nau-yuma-selected\/\">NAU has selected Michael Sabath to head up the NAU-Yuma branch campus, President Rita Cheng announced.
