Jan Brewer to serve on the Arizona Veterans Advisory Council. The nine-member commission provides policy advice to the governor and director of Arizona Department of Veterans\u2019 Service on matters affecting the state\u2019s 600,000 veterans. Griffin will serve a three-year appointment.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><b>Nicole Lohman<\/b>, graduate candidate in the anthropology program, won the Cordell Prize for best student presentation at the Pecos Conference, an annual gathering of Southwestern archeologists. Lohman received a retablo of St. Linda, patroness of Southwestern archaeologists and a $500 check. The Cordell Prize honors the late Linda Cordell, author of the primary textbook on Southwestern Archaeology.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><b>James I. Bowie<\/b>, senior lecturer in sociology,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/blogs\/the_eye\/2014\/08\/12\/the_sec_s_antimodern_logo_evokes_southern_tradition_authenticity.html\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>wrote an article<\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0for\u00a0<i>Slate<\/i>\u00a0titled \u201cThe Southeastern Conference\u2019s Retro Logo Is a Brilliant Work of Modern Design.\u201d The piece examines the effectiveness of the logo of the Southeastern Conference using qualitative analysis and historical context.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/spotlight-aug-15-2014-3\/\">Kudos to these faculty, staff and students Do you have a spotlight item to share with the NAU community?
