Titled \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/dx.doi.org\/10.1038\/ncomms5500\">Individual Diet has Sex-dependent Effects on Vertebrate Gut Microbiota,<\/a>\u201d the article focuses on differences of intestinal microbial communities in males and females. Microbes in the gut contribute to an individual\u2019s health and immunity. The article\u2019s researchers propose the differences of gut microbiota by gender may be related to hormones or immune function, and the disparate intestinal communities should be considered when treating medical conditions.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The\u00a0<\/span><b style=\"color: #000000;\">School of Communication<\/b><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><b style=\"color: #000000;\">Special Collections and Archives at Cline Library<\/b><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0each were selected to receive grants from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.azhumanities.org\">Arizona Humanities,<\/a> a nonprofit which supports projects that engage the public with humanities through public programming. The School of Communication earned a $5,000 grant for a project titled \u201cStories from the Navajo New Lands,\u201d a documentation of personal accounts of Navajo families relocated in the 1980s to eastern Arizona. Cline Library\u2019s Special Collections and Archives will utilize a $2,923 grant to transcribe 20 oral histories, improving online accessibility to stories from Spanish, Basque, Mexican, Mexican American and African American communities recorded over the last two decades in the Four Corners region.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/july-31-2014\/\">Kudos to these faculty, staff and students Do you have a spotlight item to share with the NAU community?
