NAU had 10 nominations this year.NAU-TV producer-photographer\u00a0<strong>Jerry Anderfuren<\/strong>\u00a0won three awards\u2014after receiving eight nominations\u2014for his work on \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=_Gr0RuDY9MI\">Being Green<\/a>\u201d and \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=N7isk6MegDA&amp;feature=plcp\">Why NAU<\/a>,\u201d two promotional commercials for NAU.NAU Alumni Relations staff members\u00a0<strong>Krista Perkins<\/strong>\u00a0and<strong>Rosanne Burton\u00a0<\/strong>and former staff member<strong>\u00a0Angele Anderfuren<\/strong>, now a lecturer in the School of Communication<strong>,\u00a0<\/strong>were nominated in the category of commercial-single spot or campaign for the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=-bB1s5gOf4E&amp;list=UUsE5hScG1kI-6ja3Z-k-CDw&amp;index=8&amp;feature=plcp\">Northern Arizona University Mobile App<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The documentary,\u00a0<em>Forests Under Fire: The Race to Restore the American West<\/em>, produced by NAU\u2019s Ecological Restoration Institute, was nominated for an Emmy in the category of environment-program\/special.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Professor\u00a0<strong>Robert Trotter<\/strong>, adjunct\u00a0<strong>Elizabeth Briody<\/strong>\u00a0and master\u2019s graduate\u00a0<strong>Tracy Meerwarth<\/strong>\u00a0have received the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.anthropology-news.org\/index.php\/2012\/10\/01\/2012-aaa-award-winners-part-1\/\">Robert B. Textor and Family Prize in Anticipatory Anthropology<\/a>\u00a0for their work on \u201cThe Ideal Plant Culture Project.\u201d The award is presented by the American Anthropological Association. Working collaboratively with General Motors, the Ideal Culture Project helped bring about organizational change in General Motors and developed an approach that can be used by others seeking organizational change. The three also have co-written the book\u00a0<em>Transforming Culture: Creating and Sustaining a Better Manufacturing Organization<\/em>\u00a0(Palgrave Macmillan, 2010).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Dennis Catlin<\/strong>, criminology and criminal justice professor, was named Educator of the Year by the Arizona Justice Educators Association. The association cited his high ethical standards, outstanding achievements, contribution and dedication to students and faculty in criminal justice education. Catlin is a long-time member of the association, which represents Arizona community college and university criminal justice instructors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Sixteen faculty members and students\u00a0from the Program in Intensive English recently gave presentations at Arizona Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages State Conference.\u00a0Presenters included administrators\u00a0<strong>Jackie Evans<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Hannaliisa Savolainen;<\/strong>\u00a0instructors\u00a0<strong>Laura Zurlo<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Charlotte<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Remmel<\/strong>; teaching assistants\u00a0<strong>Marianna Beery<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Tingting Kang,\u00a0Yilmin Koo,\u00a0Qiandi Liu,\u00a0Jena Lynch,\u00a0Nadege Neta,\u00a0Kerry Pusey, Randy Rebman,\u00a0Nick Velde, Linxiao Wang,\u00a0Xin Wang<\/strong>;\u00a0and graduate student\u00a0<strong>Maria Nelly Gutierrez-Arvizu.<\/strong>\u00a0The 16 separate presentations were related to research and teaching in NAU\u2019s Program for Intensive English.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Physics and math senior\u00a0<strong>John (JJ) Zanazzi<\/strong>\u00a0recently won honorable mention for his essay \u201cDefining Cosmological Complexity\u201d from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.newfrontiersinastronomy.org\/student-essay-competition-winners.html\">New Cosmic Frontiers<\/a>\u00a0in an international competition. He will travel to Philadelphia next weekend to accept his award. Zanazzi also has received a scholarship from the American Mathematical Society to the prestigious\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ams.org\/programs\/travel-grants\/mimoscow\">Math in Moscow<\/a>\u00a0program for the spring.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Mandy Hansen<\/strong>, associate director for the Center for International Education and director of International Admissions, had an article published in the fall 2012\u00a0<em>IIENetworker,\u00a0<\/em>a publication of the Institute of International Education that is distributed internationally. The article, \u201cTake a Deep Breath: Making International Enrollment Management Manageable,\u201d is available\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nxtbook.com\/nxtbooks\/naylor\/IIEB0212\/index.php#\/34\">online<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Professor\u00a0<strong>Brant Short<\/strong>\u00a0from the School of Communication had his essay, &#8220;Greenwashing to Green Advocacy: The Environmental Imperative in Organizational Rhetoric,&#8221; published in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.peterlang.com\/download\/datasheet\/68150\/datasheet_311790.pdf\"><em>Talking Green: Exploring Contemporary Issues in Environmental Communications<\/em><\/a>, edited by Lee Ahern and Denise Bortree of the College of Communications at Penn State. Short\u2019s essay grew out of a lecture he presented in 2010 on several university and college campuses as part of an initiative funded by the Arthur W. Page Center for Integrity in Public Communication.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Associate professor\u00a0<strong>Lori Poloni-Staudinger<\/strong>, from Politics and International Affairs, will give a talk, titled &#8220;Terrorism and Violent Conflict: Women&#8217;s Agency, Leadership and Responses,&#8221; to the American Academy of University Women in Prescott on Saturday, Oct. 13.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Senior fullback\u00a0<strong>Jake Hess<\/strong>\u00a0has been named a candidate for the 2012 National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Awards. He is one 147 semifinalists for the 2012 William V.
