{"id":29665,"date":"2014-03-28T08:21:46","date_gmt":"2014-03-28T15:21:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/?p=29665"},"modified":"2014-03-31T10:27:06","modified_gmt":"2014-03-31T17:27:06","slug":"nau-produced-climate-movie-premiere-cline-library","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/nau-produced-climate-movie-premiere-cline-library\/","title":{"rendered":"NAU-produced climate movie to premiere at Cline Library"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-29666\" alt=\"Taking Earth's Temperature\" src=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/temp.jpg\" width=\"450\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2014\/03\/temp.jpg 450w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2014\/03\/temp-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/>A compelling new film about climate change, produced by NAU\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/idealab.nau.edu\/\">IDEA Lab<\/a>, will premiere at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 10, in Cline Library Assembly Hall.<\/p>\n<p>The screening of<i> Taking Earth\u2019s Temperature: Delving into Climate\u2019s Past<\/i> is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n<p>Filmmakers <strong>Dan Boone<\/strong>, <strong>Ryan Belnap<\/strong> and <strong>Peter Friederici<\/strong> as well as NAU researchers featured in the film\u2014<strong>Scott Anderson<\/strong>, <strong>David Fortin<\/strong>, <strong>Deborah Huntzinger<\/strong>, <strong>Darrell Kaufman <\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Nicholas McKay<\/strong>\u2014will be on hand to answer questions from the audience.<\/p>\n<p>The one-hour documentary, with footage from both the field and laboratories in the United States and Europe, showcases scientific discoveries about climate change. Because the Earth\u2019s climate fluctuates over vast time spans, the scientists are looking for a long-term view that transcends daily experiences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy looking to the past, we can put the present in perspective and think more clearly about the future,\u201d said Kaufman, an NAU Regents professor.<\/p>\n<p><i>Taking Earth\u2019s Temperature<\/i> follows Kaufman and his research team as they travel to a remote Arctic lake to gather samples of lake-bottom mud that hold records of past climate changes. It also shows how scientists from around the world have collaborated to paint a new and detailed picture of the last two millennia of the Earth\u2019s temperature history.<\/p>\n<p>By comparing records from different parts of the world, scientists have been able to come to a much more intricate understanding of why those patterns change, to recognize variations that are not natural, and to test and improve predictive climate models.
