The concert takes place at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, in\u00a0NAU\u2019s Ashurst Hall.<\/p>\n
Imani Winds<\/a> has established itself as one of the most successful chamber music ensembles in the United States. Since 1997, the Grammy-nominated quintet has taken a unique path, carving out a distinctive presence in the classical music world with its dynamic playing, culturally poignant programming, adventurous collaborations and inspirational outreach programs. With two member composers and a deep commitment to commissioning new works, the group is enriching the traditional wind quintet repertoire while meaningfully bridging European, American, African and Latin American traditions.<\/p>\n The Imani Winds will perform Tzigane<\/em>\u00a0and Suite: Portraits of Josephine Baker<\/em>\u00a0by flutist\/composer Valerie Coleman, Cane<\/em>\u00a0(episodes in the life of Marie-Therese Coin-Coin, an African-born American slave) by Jason Moran, Paul Hindemith\u2019s Kleine Kammermusik<\/i>, Op. 24, and Francis Poulenc\u2019s Sextet<\/i> for piano and winds with McDermott.<\/p>\n Individual tickets for the Horizons Concert Series are $20 for adults, $12.50 for seniors and NAU faculty and staff, and free for children ages 17 and younger and NAU students with an ID. Since making her Carnegie Hall debut at age 12, Anne-Marie McDermott<\/a> has emerged as the consummate keyboard artist who balances a versatile career as soloist and collaborative pianist. Her numerous chamber music partnerships include the McDermott Trio with sisters Kerry (violin) and Maureen (cello). McDermott is a regular member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and serves as artistic director of the Vail Valley Music Festival in Colorado.<\/p>\n
