The NAU community undertook an extensive strategic planning exercise during the last academic year to review and refine the university\u2019s planning directions and principles.<\/p>\n
Online discussions attracted 1,084 visitors, resulting in an active participation of 243 students, faculty and staff members.\u00a0In addition, 15 standing committees, councils and departments were consulted during in-person feedback sessions.<\/p>\n

The Strategic Planning and Budget Council designated a work group to review feedback and revise the university strategic plan. As a result, the previous seven goals that resulted from the 2010 strategic planning review process were consolidated into six: students success; global engagement; commitment to Native Americans; diversity, civic engagement and community building; nationally recognized research excellence; and sustainability and effectiveness.<\/p>\n
These goals align with four goals defined by the Arizona Board of Regents.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe relative stability of the university strategic plan over the years, despite its regular review with a built-in intensive feedback process, shows that the strategic directions reflect our values,\u201d said Pat Haeuser<\/b>, vice president for Institutional Effectiveness.<\/p>\n
Two themes that came directly from the university community\u2019s feedback are now addressed explicitly at the goal level\u2014research excellence and civic engagement.<\/p>\n
