It also is the second highest rated NPR station in the United States behind Vermont. Stark also announced plans to create a mobile phone emergency app in association with Coconino County and the\u00a0<em>Arizona Daily Sun<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>President\u00a0<strong>John Haeger<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Fred Hurst<\/strong>, senior vice president for Extended Campuses, were in Washington, D.C., last week to meet with media outlets and members of the U.S. Department of Education to discuss a number of higher education issues, including competency-based learning, also called personalized learning.<\/p>\n<p>The Phoenix Biomedical Center\u2019s\u00a0<a title=\"\u2018Official\u2019 opening day at Phoenix Biomedical Campus\" href=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/official-opening-day-at-phoenix-biomedical-campus\/\">grand opening was celebrated last week<\/a>, with several NAU representatives in attendance. Haeger said NAU will capitalize on the need to expand NAU\u2019s offerings in the medical field.<\/p>\n<p>Planning for the possibility of faculty and staff salary increases continues, according to Provost\u00a0<strong>Laura Huenneke<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Diane Verkest<\/strong>, associate vice president for Human Resources. NAU is hoping to launch a pilot program that would give additional compensation for \u201cexemplary\u201d performances. Performance increases or workforce planning changes would not go into effect until January.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Roy St. Laurent<\/strong>, head of the Academic Chairs Council, expressed concern about the timeline for implementing performance increases. He also presented the councils report, which included discussions about rethinking student success.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Allen Reich<\/strong>, president of the Faculty Senate, presented his group&#8217;s report concerning assessment bylaws and liberal studies outcomes. The senate is continuing its discussion regarding personalized learning.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/azregents.edu\/\">Arizona Board of Regents<\/a>\u00a0should be announcing a new president within the week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pat Haeuser<\/strong>, vice president for Planning and Institutional Effectiveness, said the Arizona Board of Regents\u00a0<a title=\"Regents approve university budget requests\" href=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/regents-approve-university-budget-requests\/\">has approved the universities\u2019 budget proposals<\/a>\u00a0for fiscal year 2014.<\/p>\n<p>NAU is considering implementing a hotline for employees to report ethics and compliance issues, announced\u00a0<strong>Jennus Burton<\/strong>, vice president for Finance and Administration.
