Jan Brewer selected the Center for American Indian Economic Development to receive the Future Leaders Award for efforts toward teaching financial literacy to youth.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>NAU&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Center for American Indian Economic Development<\/strong>, part of the W.A. Franke College of Business,\u00a0earned recognition from Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer this week during her Economic Development Conference in Flagstaff. The center earned the Governor&#8217;s Future Leaders Award for the\u00a0<a title=\"Game instills financial literacy among Native youth\" href=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/game-instills-financial-literacy-among-native-youth\/\">Seven Generations Money Management Game<\/a>, which instills financial responsibility in Native American youth.<\/li>\n<li><b>Peter Friederici<\/b>, associate professor of journalism, recently published a three-part series on Germany\u2019s difficult transition to a renewable energy economy that was featured in <em>InsideClimate News<\/em>. The series, based on Friederici\u2019s sabbatical research conducted in the spring, examines why coal continues to play a major role in Germany\u2019s electricity production even as the nation dramatically ramps up its use of wind and solar energy. Col.\u00a0<b>Andrew Griffin<\/b>, director of the Office of Military and Veteran Affairs, and Flagstaff Mayor Jerry Nabours spoke during the ceremony recognizing the more than 83,000 Americans missing in action and half a million military personnel who have been held as prisoners of war since World War II.<\/li>\n<li><b>Peter Fule<\/b>, professor in the School of Forestry, is co-author of \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencemag.org\/content\/342\/6154\/41.summary?rss=1\">Managing Forests and Fire in Changing Climates<\/a>,\u201d published by <i>Science<\/i>.
