Provost<strong> Laura Huenneke\u00a0<\/strong>approved the winners.<\/p>\n<p>The awards recognize excellence in assessing student learning and encourage faculty to share their promising practices in curriculum, learning design and assessment with their colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>Three programs will receive a Seal of Assessment Excellence, which recognizes exemplary work in three assessment phases:\u00a01) Mission, degree program student learning outcomes, curriculum map and assessment strategy; 2) Data collection; and\u00a03) Use of assessment findings to promote learning strengths and\/or to make changes to curricular design. NAU\u2019s Seal recognition process has received national attention and was partly the reason NAU received the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/nau-measures-up-with-higher-ed-award\/\">2009 Council for Higher Education Association Award<\/a>\u00a0for Progress in Outcomes Assessment.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-26904\" alt=\"Seal of Assessment Excellence\" src=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Assessment_Seal_AY12-13.jpg\" width=\"350\" height=\"347\" srcset=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2013\/09\/Assessment_Seal_AY12-13.jpg 350w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2013\/09\/Assessment_Seal_AY12-13-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2013\/09\/Assessment_Seal_AY12-13-300x297.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/>This year\u2019s Seal of Assessment Excellence winners are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The College of Education\u2019s<b> master\u2019s and certificate programs in educational technologies<\/b>, which used assessment findings for continuous program improvement, including undertaking a research study of the validity and reliability of program performance assessments.<\/li>\n<li>The College of Engineering, Forestry and Natural Sciences\u2019 <b>bachelor\u2019s in mechanical engineering <\/b>program, which used assessment tools and processes to improve student learning.<\/li>\n<li>The College of Social and Behavioral Science\u2019s <b>bachelor\u2019s of social work<\/b> program, which presented clear and thorough assessment findings, interpretations and recommendations organized by program competencies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Eight programs also were selected to receive a Letter of Commendation, which recognizes outstanding work in any one of the three assessment phases.
