Photos by Charlie McCallie<\/small><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>The newest additions to the Lumberjack family were welcomed this week by Northern Arizona University\u2019s men\u2019s basketball team, cheerleaders, student leaders, faculty, staff and community members.<\/p>\n<p>NAU President\u00a0<strong>John Haeger<\/strong>\u00a0introduced\u00a0<strong>Lisa Campos<\/strong>, vice president for Intercollegiate Athletics, and\u00a0<strong>Jack Murphy<\/strong>, head men\u2019s basketball coach, at a press conference and reception Monday in NAU\u2019s Skydome.<\/p>\n<p>Haeger said the addition of\u00a0<a title=\"NAU selects UTEP administrator to lead athletic department\" href=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/nau-selects-utep-administrator-to-lead-athletic-department\/\">Campos<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a title=\"NAU selects Memphis assistant to lead basketball program\" href=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/nau-selects-memphis-assistant-to-lead-basketball-program\/\">Murphy<\/a>\u00a0signals a new era in NAU athletics, and noted that the success of athletics has benefits that reach far beyond the university environment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho wins\u2014student athletes, the city of Flagstaff and northern Arizona,\u201d Haeger said. \u201cAthletic events are opportunities for us to come together, support our students and strengthen the bond between the university and the community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The selection of Campos and Murphy elicited praise from several members of the Arizona Board of Regents, which held a special session Tuesday to approve Murphy\u2019s five-year coaching contract.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ernest Calder\u00f3n,\u00a0<\/strong>board member and chair of the resources committee, applauded the selection of Campos and Murphy to leadership positions in NAU Athletics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is positive and exciting news for Northern Arizona University as it continues to reload and move in its upward trajectory in athletics,\u201d Calder\u00f3n said.<\/p>\n<p>The board unanimously approved Murphy\u2019s contract.
