{"id":24747,"date":"2006-12-06T14:49:55","date_gmt":"2006-12-06T21:49:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/?p=24747"},"modified":"2015-08-17T15:10:33","modified_gmt":"2015-08-17T22:10:33","slug":"spotlight-12-06-2006","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/spotlight-12-06-2006\/","title":{"rendered":"Spotlight 12-06-2006"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>Two faculty members from the Department of English\u2014<strong>Jim Fitzmaurice<\/strong>, professor, and<strong>Angela Hansen<\/strong>, assistant professor\u2014have been awarded an Arizona Regents Reach Out grant for more than $100,000 from the Arizona Board of Regents for their proposal, &#8220;Current Shakespeare Scholarship and the Secondary Classroom.&#8221; The grant award is used to develop, produce, and enhance high quality distance learning projects.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a name=\"2\"><\/a>Mary McGroarty<\/strong>, professor in the Department of English, has edited volume 26 of the\u00a0<em>Annual Review of Applied Linguistics<\/em>, published in October 2006. This volume includes 13 original research reviews by 21 authors addressing developments in European and other lingua franca languages, among them Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Quechua, Russian and Spanish, in addition to English.<\/li>\n<li><a name=\"3\"><\/a>Three faculty members at NAU-Yuma\u2014<strong>Pit Kolodinsky<\/strong>, associate professor of counseling,<strong>Peter Mangan<\/strong>, senior lecturer in psychology, and\u00a0<strong>William Pederson<\/strong>, lecturer of social work\u2014along with George Montopoli and Scott McLean of Arizona Western College, had their article, &#8220;The Career Fair as a Vehicle for Enhancing Occupational Self-Efficacy,&#8221; published in the December 2006 issue of the peer-review journal\u00a0<em>Professional Student Counseling<\/em>. The article is the result of a collaborative effort to explore ways to improve the positive student impact of career and occupational fairs, such as the annual Arizona Western College Job Fair. The NAU\/AWC partnership has received nationwide attention for its collaboration, effectiveness and involvement of faculty to improve student learning and success.<\/li>\n<li><a name=\"4\"><\/a>Three faculty from the School of Communication participated in the National Communication Association&#8217;s annual convention in San Antonio, Texas Nov. 18.\n<ul>\n<li>Director\u00a0<strong>Mark Neumann<\/strong>\u00a0presented two papers: &#8220;Critical Vehicles Crash the Scene: Spectacular Nature and Popular Spectacle at the Grand Canyon,&#8221; and &#8220;&#8216;New &#8216; DIY Media Technologies and the Legacy of the &#8216;Amateur.'&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Professor\u00a0<strong>Lea J. Parker<\/strong>\u00a0was awarded a &#8220;Top Paper&#8221; designation by the Environmental Communication Commission of the National Communication Association for her research paper, &#8220;The Captain Planet Television Series: Connecting Audiences with Environmental Agendas, Issues and Actions.&#8221; She presented her paper at the conference.<\/li>\n<li>Professor\u00a0<strong>Richard A.
