{"id":24624,"date":"2006-11-29T11:03:21","date_gmt":"2006-11-29T18:03:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/?p=24624"},"modified":"2015-08-17T15:10:20","modified_gmt":"2015-08-17T22:10:20","slug":"student-art-shows-weave-unusual-elements","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/student-art-shows-weave-unusual-elements\/","title":{"rendered":"Student art shows weave unusual elements"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Instead of letting her plastic grocery sacks pile up behind the fridge,\u00a0<strong>Jayne Ottesen<\/strong>\u00a0weaves them into wearable art.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My mother and grandmothers recycled materials for dresses, shirts and underwear,&#8221; said Ottesen, a senior fine arts major. &#8220;Honoring the tradition of the women in my family, I, too, recycle material.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ottesen, who has shown her clothing at the STRUT Fashion Show at Flagstaff&#8217;s Orpheum Theater and at the Trash Fashion &amp; Costume Contest in Santa Fe, is one of many fine-art students exhibiting their creations at the Bachelor of Fine Arts Student Exhibitions.<\/p>\n<p>Ottesen will join graduating fine-arts majors\u00a0<strong>Blair Whitaker<\/strong>\u00a0(painting),\u00a0<strong>Ryan Holandes<\/strong>\u00a0(jewelry),<strong>Jessica Steckel<\/strong>\u00a0(painting) and\u00a0<strong>Eileen Clark<\/strong>\u00a0(ceramics) at the BFA Student Exhibition II opening from 7 to 9 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Beasley Art Gallery in the Performing and Fine Arts building on the NAU campus. The exhibit will run until Dec. 5.<\/p>\n<p>The BFA Student Exhibition III will be open from 7 to 9 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Beasley Art Gallery and will run until Dec. 16. Graduating fine-art majors\u00a0<strong>Rachel Cesnik<\/strong>\u00a0(ceramics),\u00a0<strong>Tatiana Smail<\/strong>\u00a0(painting),<strong>Paul Folk<\/strong>\u00a0(painting),\u00a0<strong>Jan Miller<\/strong>\u00a0(jewelry) and\u00a0<strong>Heather Hoult<\/strong>\u00a0(jewelry) will exhibit their work.<\/p>\n<p>The BFA shows are a requirement for graduation. They are a culmination of a year&#8217;s work, said\u00a0<strong>Joe Boles<\/strong>, interim director of the School of Art.
