Graduate students included\u00a0<strong>Melanie Birck<\/strong>, who presented a paper: &#8220;Email, Privacy, and the Workplace: Rights and Responsiblities;&#8221;\u00a0<strong>Sara Cobb<\/strong>, who presented a paper, &#8220;A System Analysis of the Music Industry;&#8221;\u00a0<strong>Carly Long<\/strong>, who presented a paper, &#8220;Patagonia: Committed to Re-Conceptualizing Corporate Communication;&#8221;\u00a0<strong>Kevin Mitchell<\/strong>, who moderated a program on rhetorical studies; and\u00a0<strong>Hilary Nemchik<\/strong>, who presented a paper, &#8220;Bloomers in the Breeze: Rhetoric in the Rational Dress Movement.&#8221;<a name=\"2\"><\/a>Undergraduate students included\u00a0<strong>Rachel David<\/strong>, who presented a paper, &#8220;The Rhetoric of Abolition and Harriet Beecher Stowe\u2019s Uncle Tom\u2019s Cabin;&#8221;\u00a0<strong>Melanie Dodson<\/strong>, who presented a paper, &#8220;Puzzle Piece Ideology: A Rhetorical Critique of Jim Paxon\u2019s Role in the Rodeo-Chedeski Fire of 2002;&#8221;\u00a0<strong>Jake Leon-Guerrero<\/strong>, who presented a paper, &#8220;Elizabeth Glaser and the Rhetoric of AIDS Awareness in the United States;&#8221;\u00a0<strong>Natasha Kypfer<\/strong>, who presented a paper, &#8220;Protest Songs of the Vietnam Antiwar Movement: The Songs of Bob Dylan and Country Joe McDonald;&#8221; and\u00a0<strong>Brian Rogers<\/strong>, who presented a paper, &#8220;Alice Walker: An Analysis of the Conception, Rhetoric and Impact of the Womanist Movement.&#8221;\n<p><a name=\"3\"><\/a>Faculty members included speech communication professor\u00a0<strong>Dayle Hardy-Short<\/strong>\u00a0and lecturer<strong>Marie Baker-Ohler<\/strong>, who were part of a roundtable discussion on the pros and cons of teaching communication courses online.\u00a0<strong>Mark Neumann<\/strong>, director of the School of Communication, and communication professor\u00a0<strong>Brant Short\u00a0<\/strong>also attended panels and participated in planning sessions for next year&#8217;s ACA meeting, which the school will host in October 2007.<\/p>\n<p>Hardy-Short received the association&#8217;s Arizona Communication Educator of the Year award. The annual award honors dedication to students and instruction.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Bruce Sullivan<\/strong>, professor of Humanities, Arts and Religion, published an essay, &#8220;The Ideology of Self-Willed Death in the Epic Mahabharata,&#8221; in the\u00a0<em>Journal of Vaishnava Studies<\/em>.Sullivan also has had two other essays accepted for publication: &#8220;Dying on the Stage in the Natyashastra and Kutiyattam: Perspectives from the Sanskrit Theatre Tradition,&#8221; in the\u00a0<em>Asian Theatre Journal<\/em>, and &#8220;Tantroid Phenomena in Early Indic Literature,&#8221; in a special edition of<em>Pacific World: Journal of the Institute of Buddhist Studies<\/em>\u00a0in honor of James Sanford.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a name=\"5\"><\/a>Gioia Woods<\/strong>, associate professor of Humanities, Arts and Religion, published an essay, &#8220;Cowboys, Indians, and Iraq: Jessica Lynch, Lori Piestewa, and the Great American Makeover&#8221; in the October issue of\u00a0<em>Studies in Popular Culture<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/spotlight-11-1-2006\/\">Ten NAU students and four faculty members from NAU&#8217;s School of Communication participated at the recent meeting of the Arizona Communication Association.
