{"id":24081,"date":"2006-10-04T14:51:37","date_gmt":"2006-10-04T21:51:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/?p=24081"},"modified":"2015-08-17T15:09:26","modified_gmt":"2015-08-17T22:09:26","slug":"nau-centennial-forest-hosting-first-community-service-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/nau-centennial-forest-hosting-first-community-service-day\/","title":{"rendered":"NAU Centennial Forest hosting first community service day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The NAU Centennial Forest\u2014home to 4,700 acres of forest used for university research and education\u2014is holding its first community service day from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 7 near the Arboretum at Flagstaff off Woody Mountain Road.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cheryl Miller<\/strong>, education coordinator in the School of Forestry, said the project is a way for the community to give back to a popular recreational place.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a great opportunity to get out and do something good for the environment,&#8221; she said, adding that participants will work on identifying and removing invasive species of exotic plants and planting native plants.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ll also be cleaning up some of the garbage out there, and closing off a road to the Mexican spotted owl protected activity center, so people are not disturbing owls during this breeding season,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Participants will meet at 8:30 a.m. in the School of Forestry parking lot (P46), and are asked to bring water, sunscreen and appropriate clothing for the weather.
