NAU users can download the current version of Thunderbird from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nau.edu\/its\/software\" target=\"_blank\">www.nau.edu\/its\/software<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Thunderbird is available for Windows, Macintosh and Linux operating systems.<\/p>\n<p>ITS decided to add Thunderbird to its list of supported e-mail programs\u2014the others are Eudora, Outlook, Webmail and Portal Mail\u2014after comparing it against two other e-mail programs.\u00a0<strong>Dina Barnese<\/strong>, PC Support Team lead, put together a campuswide committee to evaluate the three programs, and Thunderbird came out on top. The three were tested on 30 different features.<\/p>\n<p>Barnese said the version available at the ITS web site has been set up especially for NAU users. &#8220;It is preconfigured to work with NAU&#8217;s e-mail servers,&#8221; she said. &#8220;We&#8217;re trying to make it as easy as possible for people to install and use it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Thunderbird has spam and virus protection in addition to the protection found on the ITS servers.<\/p>\n<p>If you need help getting up to speed with Thunderbird, the Information Systems Technology Training group will be offering free training.
