{"id":22130,"date":"2006-05-03T09:09:19","date_gmt":"2006-05-03T16:09:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/?p=22130"},"modified":"2015-08-17T14:59:15","modified_gmt":"2015-08-17T21:59:15","slug":"be-careful-sending-bulk-e-mails","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/be-careful-sending-bulk-e-mails\/","title":{"rendered":"Be careful sending bulk e-mails"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Information Technology Services is advising faculty and staff to be cautious when sending bulk e-mails through the university system.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Recently e-mail service was severely impacted when students replied to a departmental memo that had been sent to 4,000 recipients, creating an e-mail storm that resulted in the denial of service to many NAU computer clients.<\/p>\n<p>To prevent such problems in the future, do not use the &#8220;Reply to All&#8221; function on your e-mail unless it is a departmental necessity or you have created the list yourself. To send an e-mail to a large group\u2014more than 50 people\u2014use the instructions on creating a &#8220;list-serv&#8221; for your group or department.<\/p>\n<p>For information visit the\u00a0ITS web site\u00a0or call Information Technology Services at (928) 523-1911 for instructions on how to create a bulk mailing.<\/p>\n<p>Departmental mailings and class lists should always use list-serv.
