Individuals who show their NAU ID are provided with a yellow bike, helmet, bike lock and key.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Northern Arizona University has been recognized\u00a0by the League of American Bicyclists\u00a0for its efforts to promote a bicycle-friendly atmosphere on the Flagstaff campus.<\/p>\n<p>The university was named a silver-level bicycle-friendly university by the national organization based on five categories: the availability of education programs for cyclists and drivers; promotion and encouragement for cycling on campus; engineering that promotes cycling such as designated bike paths and innovative methods of accommodating bicycles; efforts to prevent bicycle theft and encourage motorists to share the road with cyclists; and evaluation and planning of cycling programs on campus.<\/p>\n<p>NAU is actively involved in incorporating bicycles into the university culture through the free\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www2.nau.edu\/green-p\/index.php\/2012\/01\/23\/take-advantage-of-the-yellow-bikes-at-nau\/\">Yellow Bike program<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/home.nau.edu\/parking\/biking.asp\">bike registration<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/home.nau.edu\/parking\/biking.asp\">locker storage<\/a>\u00a0to protect bicycles from weather, and recent enhancements to the campus pedways including the addition of an\u00a0<a title=\"Work to begin on pathway across campus\" href=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/work-to-begin-on-pathway-across-campus\/\">east-west pathway<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The complete list of bicycle-friendly universities names 35 campuses in 21 states and may be viewed\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bikeleague.org\/programs\/bicyclefriendlyamerica\/bicyclefriendlyuniversity\/pdfs\/bfu_master_award_list_march2012.pdf\">here<\/a>.The league&#8217;s full report detailing NAU&#8217;s designation as a bicycle-friendly university is available <a href=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/bicycle.pdf\">online<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/cycling-culture-earns-nau-spot-on-national-bike-friendly-campus-list\/\">Northern Arizona University has been recognized\u00a0by the League of American Bicyclists\u00a0for its efforts to promote a bicycle-friendly atmosphere on the Flagstaff campus.
