Haeger<\/strong> recently participated in a round-table discussion on the challenges of reclaiming the public trust in higher education.<\/p>\n<p>The discussion was part of a conference sponsored by the American Council on Education in January in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n<p>The discussion featured a dozen other university system leaders, including Charles B Reed, chancellor of the California State University System, and William E. Kirwan, chancellor of the University System of Maryland.<\/p>\n<p>Topics for the discussion, titled &#8220;Recapturing Public Confidence in Higher Education: The Leadership Challenges of Accountability, Institutional Performance and the Marketplace,&#8221; included resolving tensions among market demands, academic preferences and public policy priorities.<\/p>\n<p>The conversations will result in brief working papers for higher education professionals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/ace-conference-features-public-trust-discussion-2\/\">Northern Arizona University President John D.
