Sommerness<\/strong>, NAU professor of journalism, has just been released by Kendall Hunt Publishing of Dubuque, Iowa. A number of NAU faculty contributed to the book.\u00a0<strong>K. Charlie Hicks<\/strong>, lecturer in electronic media and film, wrote &#8220;Introduction to Broadcast News Writing.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Nicole O&#8217;Grady<\/strong>, assistant clinical professor of educational specialties, wrote &#8220;The 411 on APA.&#8221;\u00a0<strong>Richard A. Rogers<\/strong>, professor of speech communication, wrote &#8220;Why You Are Not a \u2018Communications\u2019 Major and other Terminological Traps, or &#8216;Drop the \u2018s,\u2019 will ya?\u2019 An Example of the Importance of Precision in Verbal Expression.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Joseph C. Walters<\/strong>, emeritus professor of mass communication, wrote &#8220;Your Grammar wears Combat Boots! Well! My Grammar Can Lick Your Grammar.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Russ Gilbert<\/strong>, photography laboratory coordinator for the School of Communication and graduate student in Career and Technical Education, recently gave a lecture at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sedonaphotofest.com\/\">Sedona Photo Fest<\/a>\u00a0called \u201cLandscape Photographers and the American Conservation Movement: A History.\u201d The lecture addressed the barriers that early photographic pioneers encountered and how the results of their work have become a part of American history.<\/li>\n<li>\n<figure id=\"attachment_20406\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-20406\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-20406\" alt=\"Forestry INAU\" src=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/InsideNAU_Forestry-300x95.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"95\" srcset=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2013\/05\/InsideNAU_Forestry-300x95.jpg 300w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2013\/05\/InsideNAU_Forestry.jpg 586w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-20406\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The book, School of Forestry: Celebrating a Half-Century of Teaching, Research, and Innovation, which commemorates the 50th anniversary of NAU\u2019s School of Forestry.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www4.nau.edu\/marketing\/\">Marketing Department<\/a>\u00a0has received two 2010\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.communicatorawards.com\/\">Communicator Awards<\/a>\u00a0from the International Academy of Visual Arts.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Gold Award of Excellence was presented for the design of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www4.nau.edu\/insidenau\/bumps\/2010\/7_28_10\/09TeaserPiece2.pdf\">2009 Undergraduate Admissions Search Piece<\/a>, a 26-page booklet that provides prospective students with an overview of the university.<\/li>\n<li>The department also received the Silver Award of Distinction for the design of the book,\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www4.nau.edu\/insidenau\/bumps\/2010\/7_28_10\/Forestry%20Book2.pdf\">School of Forestry: Celebrating a Half-Century of Teaching, Research, and Innovation<\/a><\/em>, which commemorates the 50th anniversary of NAU\u2019s School of Forestry. Both pieces were designed by\u00a0<strong>RenSu Yang<\/strong>, senior graphic designer for the department.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"display: inline !important;\"><\/li>\n<li>Physical therapist and member of the American Physical Therapy Association\u00a0<strong>Lindsey Kirkaldie<\/strong>\u00a0was awarded the association\u2019s Minority Scholarship Award for Academic Excellence during the organization\u2019s annual conference and exposition, held in Boston June 16-19. Kirkaldie received her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Northern Arizona University in May.
