{"id":20261,"date":"2010-07-07T10:57:09","date_gmt":"2010-07-07T17:57:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/?p=20261"},"modified":"2013-06-10T14:20:51","modified_gmt":"2013-06-10T21:20:51","slug":"spotlight-7-7-2010","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/spotlight-7-7-2010\/","title":{"rendered":"In the Spotlight: July 7, 2010"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Kudos to these faculty, staff and students<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Do you have a spotlight item to share with the NAU community?<\/p>\n<p>E-mail your announcements to\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:Inside@nau.edu\" target=\"_blank\">Inside@nau.edu<\/a>, or use our\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/news-tip\/\">online submission form<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Two School of Forestry graduate students recently were awarded grants by the National Science Foundation.\u00a0<strong>Larissa Yocom\u00a0<\/strong>received $11,283 toward her doctoral dissertation enhancement project, \u201cExploring Climatic and Human Drivers of Fire Regime in a High-Elevation Mexican Forest.\u201d\u00a0<strong>Valerie Kurth<\/strong>\u2014through\u00a0<strong>Catherine Gehring<\/strong>, associate professor of biology\u2014received a $14,040 doctoral dissertation improvement grant for \u201cControls on Post-Wildfire Carbon Accumulation and Release Patterns.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Several students who participated in NAU\u2019s college outreach programs within\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/home.nau.edu\/edsup\/\">Educational Support Services<\/a>\u00a0were awarded funding and other support to begin their college careers at NAU this fall.\u00a0<strong>Renae Byakeddy<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Mercedes Seschillie<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Kaydee Williams<\/strong>\u2014all participants of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/home.nau.edu\/edsup\/ets\/default.asp\">Educational Talent Search<\/a>\u00a0program\u2014each received $6,000 per year over four years from the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.azcsf.org\/\">Arizona College Scholarship Foundation<\/a>. Byakeddy and Seschillie, who also participated in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/home.nau.edu\/edsup\/ubms\/default.asp\">Four Corners Upward Bound Math and Science<\/a>\u00a0program, also were named\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gmsp.org\/\">Gates Millennium Scholars<\/a>, along with other Educational Talent Search participants\u00a0<strong>Robin Ellsworth<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Tammy Trijillo<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/spotlight-7-7-2010\/\">Kudos to these faculty, staff and students Do you have a spotlight item to share with the NAU community?
