{"id":20045,"date":"2010-06-16T10:34:19","date_gmt":"2010-06-16T17:34:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/?p=20045"},"modified":"2013-06-13T15:44:48","modified_gmt":"2013-06-13T22:44:48","slug":"mj-mcmahon-accepts-temporary-special-assignments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/mj-mcmahon-accepts-temporary-special-assignments\/","title":{"rendered":"MJ McMahon accepts temporary special assignments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NAU Executive Vice President\u00a0<strong>MJ McMahon<\/strong>\u00a0has been tapped to undertake three special assignments for President\u00a0<strong>John Haeger<\/strong>\u00a0this fall, helping to address key issues that will propel the university forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese projects are significant and important to Northern Arizona University\u2019s future, and it\u2019s time we devote one person to pursuing them,\u201d Haeger said. \u201cMJ\u2019s leadership and vision make her ideal for seeing them through.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McMahon will focus her full-time efforts on these assignments beginning in September and return to her regular position in December. She will prepare reports to present to the president in the spring.<\/p>\n<p>McMahon\u2019s first task is related to the university\u2019s branch campus in Yuma, where new guidelines set forth by the university\u2019s accrediting agency for establishing branch campuses could help pave the way for an accredited regional university there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the next logical step for our Yuma campus,\u201d she said. \u201cNAU can fulfill a tremendous need for a regional university in southwestern Arizona, and I will be looking at how we can begin taking steps in that direction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McMahon also is charged with identifying and visiting \u201cbest practice\u201d institutions on curricular reform to gain a sense of their processes, procedures and outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe university has to increase its retention and graduation rates, and we are searching for the best ideas to bring back to campus,\u201d McMahon said, adding that she will be looking at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and schools in the Illinois system that have done a fair amount of curricular reform and that may be able to provide some models for NAU to consider adopting.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, McMahon will be working toward creating a faculty and staff leadership program that will help the university develop its own future institutional administrators.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe more our employees understand NAU\u2019s big picture and how the university operates as a whole, the better equipped they will be to participate on different levels and advance their careers here,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>She will travel to institutions with successful faculty and staff leadership programs to learn more about how their programs are facilitated, with an eye toward rolling out a pilot program at NAU as early as next fall.<\/p>\n<p><strong>David Camacho<\/strong>, special assistant to the president,\u00a0<strong>Pat Haeuser<\/strong>, vice president for Planning, Budget and Institutional Effectiveness, and\u00a0<strong>Karen Appleby<\/strong>, special assistant to the president and provost, will conduct McMahon\u2019s work on campus during her temporary absence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/mj-mcmahon-accepts-temporary-special-assignments\/\">NAU Executive Vice President\u00a0MJ McMahon\u00a0has been tapped to undertake three special assignments for President\u00a0John Haeger\u00a0this fall, helping to address key issues that will propel the university forward. \u201cThese projects are significant and important to Northern Arizona University\u2019s future, and it\u2019s time we devote one person to pursuing them,\u201d Haeger said. \u201cMJ\u2019s leadership and vision make&hellip;<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":46,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-20045","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-faculty-staff"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/20045","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/46"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=20045"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/20045\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=20045"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=20045"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=20045"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
