Boyce is described as someone who cares deeply about student learning and whose support has been key to their success. As a teaching assistant in classrooms and labs, Boyce said she tries to convey committed interest in both the material being represented as well as in each student\u2019s success.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Emily Manone<\/strong>\u00a0works with students in introductory Spanish classes. Faculty consider her a creative and resourceful teacher who involves all her students in the learning experience. Manone said one hallmark of her approach to working with undergraduates is to model motivation, passion and challenge.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Janelle Runberg<\/strong>, a teaching assistant in the Biology 181 lab, is lauded for her ability to explain complex material. Runberg said she has great enthusiasm for biology, and wants her students to succeed in science.<\/li>\n<li>Award nominees included\u00a0<strong>Andrew Allen\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Samuel Gilmore<\/strong>\u00a0in chemistry;\u00a0<strong>David Cain\u00a0<\/strong>in creative writing;\u00a0<strong>Rachel Constance<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Martin Kalb<\/strong>\u00a0in history;\u00a0<strong>Cui Lang<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Don Miller<\/strong>\u00a0in applied linguistics;\u00a0<strong>Laura Merino\u00a0<\/strong>in Spanish; and\u00a0<strong>Amanda Smith<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Lydia Wielgus\u00a0<\/strong>in applied criminology.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/spotlight-5-26-2010\/\">Kudos to these faculty, staff and students Do you have a spotlight item to share with the NAU community?
