McGivney was one of five presenters, including Robert F. Kennedy Jr., for the museum&#8217;s annual &#8220;The Nature of Things&#8221; lecture series. The theme for the series was &#8220;Reports from the Front Lines,&#8221; focusing on innovative technologies, business practices and government policies that encourage environmental sustainability and a passion for the outdoors.McGivney&#8217;s and Kay&#8217;s presentation was based on their 2009 book\u00a0<em>Resurrection: Glen Canyon and a New Vision for the American West<\/em>. The event included a lecture by McGivney on Western water policy and environmental sustainability and a 30-minute film produced by McGivney and Kay documenting their five year exploration into the recovered areas of Glen Canyon.<\/li>\n<li><strong>John Campbell<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Tobias Kreidl<\/strong>\u00a0and former NAU employee\u00a0<strong>Douglas Pace<\/strong>\u00a0had a chapter, \u201cWhy Central IT Must Embrace Open Source,\u201d published in the book\u00a0<em>Open-Source Solutions in Education: Theory and Practice<\/em>. In addition to a print edition, the book also is available\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=IBuHiWOkGUoC\">online<\/a>. Campbell also was a reviewer for the book.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Matt Casado<\/strong>, professor in the Hotel and Restaurant Management Program, had an article, &#8220;Including Foreign Language in the Higher Education Professional Curriculum,&#8221; published in\u00a0<em>The Language Educator<\/em>. The paper argues the need to prepare students in foreign languages to compete in the new global economy.<\/li>\n<li>School of Communication electronic media and film lecturer\u00a0<strong>Charlie Hicks<\/strong>\u00a0presented his paper, &#8220;Demystifying the &#8216;It&#8217; Factor: Why Certain Audience Members Develop Preferences for Certain Broadcasters,&#8221; at the 2010 Broadcast Education Association annual convention April 12-15 in Las Vegas.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bruce M. Sullivan<\/strong>, professor of religious studies, had a chapter published in a volume titled\u00a0<em>Notes from a Mandala: Essays in the History of Indian Religions in Honor of Wendy Doniger<\/em>.\u00a0 Doniger, distinguished professor of The University of Chicago\u2019s Divinity Studies, will deliver the annual Cline Lecture in the Humanities at NAU on April 26.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mark Johnson<\/strong>, an applied linguistics doctoral student, received the 2010 Ruth Crymes TESOL Fellowship for Graduate Study for the best dissertation proposal submitted to Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages, Inc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/spotlight-4-21-2010\/\">Kudos to these faculty, staff and students Do you have a spotlight item to share with the NAU community?
