Celebrate NAU’s Undergraduate Symposium and Earth Day by listening to keynote speaker Anthony Cortese present \u201cMobilizing Higher Education to Create a Healthy, Just and\u00a0Sustainable Society.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cortese, the co-founder of\u00a0Second Nature<\/a>\u00a0and co-organizer of the\u00a0American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment<\/a>, will speak at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 22, at the High Country Conference Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President John Haeger and Anthony Cortese, co-director\u00a0<\/span><\/span>of American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment, take a moment from the 2009 Greenbuild Conference to discuss the importance of becoming climate\u00a0<\/span><\/span>neutral in the 21st century and NAU’s role as a sustainability leader for the past 20 years.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

The Undergraduate Symposium will run from Monday, April 19, to Saturday, April 24, and will showcase NAU undergraduate student exhibitions and performance presentations from all six colleges.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the heart of NAU\u2019s educational programs is inquiry and creativity among students and faculty,\u201d said\u00a0Karen Pugliesi<\/strong>, vice provost of Academic Affairs. \u201cDuring the Undergraduate Symposium, students show us what they create, how they generate knowledge and apply what they learn to address local and global challenges.”<\/p>\n

Highlights also include featured speaker Lori Arviso Alvord, author of\u00a0The Scalpel and the Silver Bear<\/em><\/a>, at the College of Health and Human Services presentation on April 22, and
\nEileen Friel, director of Lowell Observatory, at the College of Engineering, Forestry and Natural Sciences presentation on April 23.<\/p>\n

The NAU Honors Symposium also will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 24 at the du Bois Center. There will be five sessions featuring the fine art displays and dramatic performances of honors students in addition to papers and presentations on topics ranging from “Problems, Local and Global, and their Solutions” to “Pop Culture, Advertising, and the American Dream.”<\/p>\n

All events are free and open to the public. Public parking will be available for symposium events at commuter lots\u00a0P2, P7A, P13, P62, P62A and P64<\/a>.
