Northern Arizona University and the Flagstaff Family YMCA will unveil the Northern Arizona College Resource Center on Monday, April 19.<\/p>\nNorthern Arizona University and the Flagstaff Family YMCA will unveil the Northern Arizona College Resource Center on Monday, April 19.<\/p>\n
The center will offer middle and high school students advising, application assistance, financial aid information workshops and standardized test prep workshops. The center also will have a computer lab. It hopes to guide students toward higher education.<\/p>\n
Program coordinator\u00a0Coral Zayas<\/strong>\u00a0will oversee daily operations with the center\u2019s programs matching those of well-recognized college access centers around the country.<\/p>\n \u201cWe want to use our community\u2019s strengths to become a leader in college access centers, especially those targeting rural populations,\u201d Zayas said.<\/p>\n Erin Grisham<\/strong>, executive director of NAU\u2019s Educational Support Services and member of the Flagstaff YMCA board of directors, said the resource center will enable the university to strengthen its partnerships and collaborations in Flagstaff and throughout northern Arizona.<\/p>\n \u201cThe center will provide much needed additional resources for students and their families about the college enrollment process,\u201d Grisham said. \u201cIt will be a tremendous service to the community, and I am very pleased the YMCA is partnering with us to meet the needs of students and families in our community.\u201d<\/p>\n The center has received community and statewide support, including start-up funding from the Arizona GEAR UP program, which is administered by NAU.
