NAU\u2019s online classes will begin to look a little different over the next several semesters as the campus migrates to a new online learning management system to replace the expiring Blackboard Vista.<\/p>\n
Learn about two alternatives being considered during the e-Learning Center\u2019s Spring Showcase, “Exploring Learning Management Systems: Past, Present, Future,” from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 8 at the Southwest Forest Science Complex, room 17.<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause this change directly impacts our faculty, it\u2019s important that they are closely involved in the process of selecting the university\u2019s new learning management system,\u201d said\u00a0Don Carter<\/strong>, director of the e-Learning Center. \u201cWe need their input early on. And we\u2019ll also need some volunteers in the summer and fall to pilot their courses. It will take a cohesive effort to make this transition as smooth as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n Carter added that the new system likely will be selected by November, with the first migrations to the new system in spring 2011.<\/p>\n Attendees of the showcase can preview the two systems being considered\u2014Blackboard Learn and Moodle\u2014and also learn about new teaching resources and how some faculty are using open social networks as a viable alternative to course management systems.<\/p>\n
