The NAU School of Music\u2019s Horizons Concert Series will present \u201cA Celebration of Concert Music by Native American Composers,\u201d featuring Italian pianist Emanuele Arciuli and Grammy-nominated R. Carlos Nakai on Native flute.<\/p>\n
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 22 in Ardrey Auditorium.<\/p>\n
Arciuli will perform several pieces dedicated to him by Native American composers, including\u00a0Osage Variations<\/em>, by Louis W. Ballard (Quapaw-Cherokee),\u00a0The Release of the Choctaw Fire Bird<\/em>, by George Quincy (Choctaw),\u00a0Nilchi’ Shada’ji Nalaghali<\/em>\u00a0(Winds that Turn on the Side from the Sun<\/em>), by Raven Chacon (Navajo-Dineh) and a new composition by Dawn Avery (Mohawk).<\/p>\n Widely heralded Navajo-Ute musician Nakai will give the Arizona premiere of\u00a0Quintet \u00e0 bec<\/em>, by Jerod Impichchaachaaha\u2019 Tate (Chickasaw), a work Nakai premiered at the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival in August.<\/p>\n Joining Nakai will be NAU musicians Melissa Latvala (flute), John Masserini (clarinet), J.C. Clermont (bass clarinet) and Kent Moore (bassoon).
