{"id":17587,"date":"2009-08-12T13:36:59","date_gmt":"2009-08-12T20:36:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/?p=17587"},"modified":"2015-08-17T14:55:49","modified_gmt":"2015-08-17T21:55:49","slug":"forbes-ranks-nau-in-top-100-for-quality-value","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/forbes-ranks-nau-in-top-100-for-quality-value\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Forbes\u2019 ranks NAU in Top 100 for quality, value"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Northern Arizona University ranks as one of the Top 100 best public colleges in the United States\u2014and as one of the nation\u2019s best values\u2014according to a special report released last week by<em>Forbes<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>NAU ranks 78th on the magazine\u2019s list of the Top 100 Best Public Colleges and 64th on\u00a0<em>Forbes<\/em>list of America\u2019s Best College Buys.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Forbes<\/em>\u00a0points to something we\u2019ve been touting for years\u2014that Northern Arizona University offers a remarkable investment in a high-quality education,\u201d said\u00a0<strong>David Bousquet<\/strong>, vice president for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs.<\/p>\n<p>The report is compiled by\u00a0<em>Forbes<\/em>\u00a0and the Center for College Affordability and Productivity, which ranks only the top 15 percent of all undergraduate institutions in the United States, or about 600 colleges and universities.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report\u2019s authors, \u201cA good college is one that meets student needs. While some college rankings are based partly on school reputation as evaluated by college administrators and on the amount of money spent, we focus on things which directly concern incoming students: Will my courses be interesting and rewarding? Will I get a good job after I graduate? Is it likely I will graduate in four years? Will I incur a ton of debt getting my degree?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The quality score is calculated by summing each school&#8217;s score with respect to\u00a0<em>Who&#8217;s Who in America<\/em>\u00a0citations, salary data from<em>PayScale.com<\/em>, course evaluations from\u00a0<em>RateMyProfessor.com<\/em>, the receipt of student and faculty nationally competitive awards, and the graduation rate variables used in the Best College rankings.<\/p>\n<p>To produce the Best Buys ranking,\u00a0<em>Forbes<\/em>\u00a0divided each school&#8217;s overall quality score by its average net tuition rate (after allowance for scholarship grants).<\/p>\n<p>Out of the report\u2019s overall rankings of the top 600 colleges and universities in the nation\u2014both public and private\u2014NAU ranks 344th, the University of Arizona ranks 339th and Arizona State University ranks 350th.<\/p>\n<p>The complete reports are available online:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/lists\/2009\/94\/colleges-09_Americas-Best-Colleges_Rank.html\">2009 America\u2019s Best Colleges<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/2009\/08\/06\/best-public-colleges-opinions-colleges-09-top.html\">2009 America\u2019s Best Public Colleges<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/2009\/08\/02\/best-buys-colleges-opinions-value.html\">2009 America\u2019s Best College Buys<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/forbes-ranks-nau-in-top-100-for-quality-value\/\">Northern Arizona University ranks as one of the Top 100 best public colleges in the United States\u2014and as one of the nation\u2019s best values\u2014according to a special report released last week byForbes.
