The lecture was sponsored by the Archaeological Institute of America. She also participated in a roundtable discussion, hosted by the UMass Classics Department, on April 10 on the theme of Etruscan womanhood and identity.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mary McGroarty,<\/strong> English professor, was the invited speaker for APPLE day on April 19, sponsored by faculty and students in applied linguistics and language education at Teachers College, Columbia University, New York.\u00a0McGroarty presented a graduate student research colloquium on affect and cognition in language research and a lecture, titled \u201cThe Challenge of Multiple Agendas for Language Teaching and Research,\u201d based on her chapter, \u201cMultiple Actors and Arenas in Evolving Language Policies,\u201d in J.W. Tollefson\u2019s\u00a02013 volume, <i>Language Policies in Education: Critical Issues<\/i>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Laura Umphrey<\/strong>, associate professor of communication, presented a paper at the 35th annual Association for Death Education and Counseling conference in Hollywood on April 25. The paper, titled &#8220;Sex and Death: Couples, Intimacy, and Losing a Child,&#8221; was co-authored by Joanne Cacciatore and Cynthia Lietz, faculty members of the School of Social Work at Arizona State University.<\/li>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-17853\" alt=\"book cover\" src=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/NCA_SW_cover.jpg\" width=\"224\" height=\"282\" \/>Research scientists from the <b>Merriam-Powell Center for Environmental Research<\/b> were among 120 experts who contributed to <i>Assessment of Climate Change in the Southwest United States, <\/i>a new book published by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.islandpress.org\/index.html\">Island Press<\/a>.
