NAU Choral Studies announces its annual Fall Festival of Choirs Concert beginning at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct.11, in Ardrey Auditorium.<\/p>\n
The program will begin with the Harold M. Harter Memorial Handbell Choir, under the direction of bellmaster\u00a0Josh Palkki,<\/strong>\u00a0performing challenging handbell repertoire, including the overture to\u00a0Carmen<\/em>. The Men\u2019s Chorale, conducted by\u00a0Germ\u00e1n Aguilar<\/strong>, will perform\u00a0The Pasture<\/em>\u00a0from the \u201cFrostiana\u201d set by Randall Thompson. University Singers, under the direction of Jennifer Hutton, will present\u00a0Son de Camaguey<\/em>, an upbeat Cuban folk song with percussion arranged by Stephen Hatfield.<\/p>\n The Women\u2019s Chorale, conducted by\u00a0Ryan Holder<\/strong>, will perform Gustav Holst\u2019s\u00a0Ave Maria<\/em>\u00a0written for eight-part a cappella women\u2019s voices. The program will conclude with the NAU Shrine of the Ages Choir, under the direction of\u00a0Edith Copley<\/strong>, presenting Aaron Copland\u2019s\u00a0The Promise of Living,\u00a0<\/em>from the opera\u00a0The Tenderland<\/em>, and\u00a0Mesa Songs<\/em>\u00a0for Native American flute, rain stick and drum by\u00a0Judith Cloud<\/strong>, NAU professor of voice.<\/p>\n Other musical selections will include historic choral works by Handel and Haydn, contemporary works by Gwyneth Walker and Moses Hogan, and folk songs from West Africa, the United States and South Africa.<\/p>\n Tickets are available in advance through the Central Ticketing Office in the University Union or at the door.
