Enrollment on the Flagstaff campus is expected to increase in the fall, according to David Bousquet<\/b>, senior vice president for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs. Bousquet said he is \u201cmore than cautiously optimistic\u201d that enrollment numbers will be up in the fall for both freshmen and transfers. He also pointed to the heavy on-campus visitor traffic this season. Bousquet noted that the dining addition is scheduled to open prior to the start of the fall semester.<\/p>\n
The university has scheduled four spring commencement ceremonies<\/a> and will bestow four individuals with honorary degrees<\/a> for their contributions to NAU and higher education, President John Haeger<\/b> said. Kerry Blume<\/b>, president and CEO of United Way of Northern Arizona; Ernest Calder\u00f3n<\/b>,\u00a0president emeritus\u00a0of the Arizona Board of Regents; Paul Keim<\/b>, director of NAU\u2019s Center for Genetics and Genomics, Regents\u2019 Professor of Biological Sciences and Cowden Endowed Chair in Microbiology; and Nancie Lindblom<\/b>, the 2013 Arizona Teacher of the Year will receive their degrees May 10 and 11 in the Walkup Skydome.<\/p>\n Haeger also noted that the Arizona Cardinals will not be returning to NAU for their annual training camp and said the team\u2019s departure is \u201ca huge opportunity to use the campus to NAU and the city of Flagstaff\u2019s advantage.\u201d<\/p>\n NAU Police Chief GT Fowler<\/b> introduced Marc Burdiss<\/b> as the new director of Emergency Management and Preparedness. Burdiss joins NAU after serving as director of Shelby County (Ohio) Emergency Management Agency.<\/p>\n The Faculty Senate is working on a shared governance document, said HRM professor Allen Reich<\/b>, Faculty Senate president. Reich said the document is being created for the next NAU president following the current president\u2019s retirement.<\/p>\n The latest Cabinet report<\/a> from the Office of Planning and Institutional Effectiveness includes information on gifts through University Advancement as well as incoming student \u201caccepts\u201d and \u201coffers.\u201d It also includes select information from the sophomore survey.<\/p>\n The 2013 Homecoming celebration on Oct. 19 will include a reunion of the Blue and Gold Class of 1973 and a parade going through downtown Flagstaff. President Haeger said he will be issuing an official statement along with city officials to denounce the annual drinking binge known as Tequila Sunrise, which has never been an official NAU event.<\/p>\n The next meeting of the Arizona Board of Regents will be June 14 and 15 in the High Country Conference Center.<\/p>\n Jennus Burton,<\/b> vice president for Finance Administration, unveiled the university holiday schedule for calendar years 2014, 2015 and 2016.
